View Full Version : More trouble in BD land as Samsung cancel BD player reports surface?
sharpyie 09-29-07, 04:47 AM Another sign that everything is not fine in BD land? Reports have surfaced saying that Samsung has canceled its standalone BD player, BDP-2400.

Samsung BDP-2400 Blu-ray player canceled (updated)
If you were looking forward to get the new Samsung BDP-2400, I have bad news for you; I just received word that Samsung has canceled all plans to release their upcoming high-end Blu-ray Disc player. All orders for the player have been canceled, and the model will not be brought to the market.
Earlier this year, Samsung announced two BD players and a dual-format player. The BDP-2400 was the higher-end model featuring the Silicon Optix HQV Reon processor, and the BDP-1400 was the consumer-level product with nearly identical specs but without the HQV chipset.
MidnightWatcher 09-29-07, 04:58 AM It's been confirmed by a number of folks here on AVS. I'd like to see Samsung release a standalone HD DVD player instead.
thebland 09-29-07, 06:45 AM I, for one, am pleased by the news..Samsungs attempts to make a reliable Blu Ray player have failed miserably...Hope they use their 'expertise' on a HD DVD player instead....:D
Woo Hoo!!!! They're gone!

I'm betting they'll make ONE KILLER HD DVD player.

The evidence says something different.
Fanboys are funny. Now Samsung is a bad electronics company?
If a company of their caliber is having trouble making a BD player it says a lot about how well BD was developed in the first place.

No. Samsung is a bad player company. They make great displays.
What percentage of stand alone BD players are a Samsung? Are you saying that even if we put player profiles aside that all these people have lemons?
What's the best low cost BD player then if Samsung is out? Is it Pioneer or Sony? What makes the Samsung players worse than those?

O rly? HDGuru (http://hdguru.com/?p=184) must be out to lunch then!
dominicr 09-29-07, 07:58 AM my first dvd player was a samsung. sold it to a friend and is still in use today.
Lee Stewart 09-29-07, 08:25 AM So no high end Reon equipped BD player from Samsung.
Interesting fact - the Reon UP DVD got rave reviews. It is used in the XA2 and the P-1200
With the Gen3 players - no more Reon - now ABT UP DVD chip
Only the Onkyo and Integra HD DVD players will use it .
So by the news this must mean we will finally get to see a profile 1.1 compliant player before the end of the year - The 5000 DF player.
That's a pity. I have a 1200, and while it has some issues, its not a bad player, and its a killer DVD player. I was debating upgrading to the 2400, but I guess not now. I like the REON chip, to bad there won't be many players with it. BYW, I thought the 5000 was delayed until early 2008.

The evidence says something different.
What evidence would that be?

Maybe they will do the most logical thing and concentrate on universal players. That way both sets of fanchildren can cry together.:D
wprager 09-29-07, 09:15 AM Just becuase they dropped plans to bring out a high-end standalone B-R player, where's the evidence that they'll use their resources to bring out an HD-DVD player? Maybe they simply realized that the market for a high-end player is just too small to make a profit. HD-DVD is selling more standalones at the moment for one reason -- price.
No, if I was Samsung I'd pour my efforts and resources into making an affordable dual-format player. Better change that to "...making a dual-format player affordable."
