View Full Version : Image goes blank after 3 sec - handshake issue?

Short question (for people with less time ;) ):

If the image gets established for a couple of seconds but then goes away, can that be a handsake issue? (That is, the image does appear albeit just for a short period; also, no "snowing" showing...)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

And now the looong version...

I am trying to get the HDMI connection work between my projector (Epson TW700, 720p) and my receiver (Marantz SR8001).

The projector was working fine on the HDMI port with my PS3/HTPC and later when I connected these components using a Monoprice HDMI switch (4 in, 1 out).

The receiver is new. I am still at the initial setup steps on the receiver, so I have to start with the OSD (on screen display) which is a 480 signal.

When I hit "Menu" on the receiver remote, the OSD appears for 3 second nice and clear, then the projected image goes away completely. No error message whatsoever... Also, the little "HDMI connection" led at the front also lits up but only for the duration of the 3 second...

I've already tried 3 different HDMI cables, no success. (I know that I should test the receiver with a different HDMI display device too, but I simply don't have an other one with HDMI in...)

So what da ya think?

Sounds like it could be an issue with the receiver (maybe in initial handshake). How long is the HDMI cable? I assume not too long since you tried three. :) But not all HDMI transmitters are equal in signal strength which could be an issue over a long run.

The currently used cable is 10 feet long. It was working in my prev. setup. The other two cables I've tried were 10 and 25 feet.

My take on it that the cable cannot be the culprit since the image DOES show up even if just for a couple of seconds. But then something goes wrong and the image disappears...

Ok, then, you're probably right.

Oh snap, I just discovered that the receiver is doing the same on its component output. I am pretty sure now that the unit is broken...
