OK..maybe this is the beer talking..but since I'm making a Star Wars themed theater...it would be cool to make the face of the stairs leading to my basement have the opening crawl from Star Wars (ANH of course). You wouldn't even see it as you walk down the stairs, but as soon s you go up the stairs on the face of the risers would be the opening crawl...instead of tapering the text, the fact that the top stair's face is further than the bottom would create that effect.

Of course I have no idea how I could accomplish this, but it would be cool! It would have to be something you could just staple onto the stairs so as not to permanently ruin the existing carpet.

Any ideas how this could be done? If a place like kinkos could print onto fabric that was the exact right size..but I am willing to bet there are no inexpensive ways of doing this...

In order to accomplish that effect you would have to be walking backwards down the steps. Otherwise it isnt even close to the same thing IMHO.

Yes that sounds like a good idea. Some of the star tile things in there would add a cool effect to it.

Just a couple of thoughts

1) Get that paint that glows with a black light and put a black light at the bottom of the stairs. Paint the letters on the stair.

2)Pick up a used projector and cheap DVD player and create a looping dvd with the crawl. Cut a hole in one of the stair risers and shine the image on the ceiling of the stairs.

Google "UV paint" there are a lot of resources.

You could get a sample, paint up some boards and set on the steps to see what you think.

Cool idea, give it a try. You can always repair it later if it doesn't work.
What about cutting the letters in the stairs and have a light under the staircase.(and I haven't even had a beer).

How many steps do you have. It would seem you wouldn't get much of the crawl on their if you only have two or three steps

I have about 13 steps...

I don't want to do anything permanent so just black material I could staple onto the face would be best I think. I talked to soeone who can probably hook me up...but I'm just going to wait a bit I think..until finances catch up.
