Well, I've spent the majority of my time over the last 2 months reading and researching Plasma and LCD in the
46"-50" range.

I've looked at all of the usual Plasma and LCD suspects, Pioneer 5080HD, Samsung 5084, Samsung 4671 etc.

My use will be SD/HD television watching, Xbox360/Wii gaming and occasional PC hookup.

In my travels I have notices that rear projection tvs (the SXRD and Sammy DLP) are actually quite popular, and to partly because they are VERY affordable.

Not knowing anything about these types of sets, and now that you know the sets I have been interested in, other than the size difference between a flat panel and rear projection set is there:

1) a noticeable difference in PQ?

2) a noticeable difference in contrast?

3) issues with being in a light controlled vs non-light controlled room?

4) PC hook up an option?

I would rather spend $1400 now for an awesome tv set even if they are a little bulky vs $3000 for a flat panel with technology that isn't quite there yet.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

For moving pictures and gaming, you might start with 720p/1080p plasma, or 1080p/120 refresh LCD.
