I have legacy E* HD (MPEG2) and want to upgrade to either E* or D* full HD. Although I have been with E* for 8 years, the thought of dealing with no native resolution setting in the receiver is a miserable one when I consider several dozen channels where at least 4 or 5 that I would watch with some frequency are 720p. Hell, I get irritated now when I switch from ESPN to HDNET, etc.
I'd like to save a few$$ and stay with E*, but I think I may be D* bound. How are you MPEG 4 folks coping?
By the way, it took me 5 different people until I got a CS guy who would definitively state none of the E* receivers have a native resolution pass mode.

It doesn't really bother me. The 622 is a fine machine. I just set it for 1080i and let it go. It's something in the works from what I hear.

For my display, interlacing a 720p signal and scaling it up, then scaling back down to 768 and deinterlacing it looks pretty funky. Can you elaborate on what you've heard? Time frame?

Just that it is being worked on but harder than they thought to get correct. The MPEG4 boxes (211, 622, and 722) do a much better job than the legacy boxes 921 and 942. I have a 211 hooked to a 768p TV in my bedroom and I can't tell the difference in the 720 and 1080i stations. I'll drop an e-mail to my contacts in engineering to see what's up.

Excellent! Thanks. I'll PM you.
Native passthru works fine with the D* H20 and HR20!
