N'gai Croal reports that Sony will start selling a $40 version of Warhawk in stories later this month. The $40 version, matching the price of the download-only version available on the Playstation Network, won't come with the Jabra Bluetooth packed in that comes with the $60 version of the game.
The $40 version will go on sale starting Oct. 10, according to GamStop, but Sony reps were only able to confirm the price and not the date to Croal. This could be a new pricing strategy for Sony, though I think it would make more sense in the future to release both a bundle and a non-bundle at stores on the same day rather than waiting to start selling the game-only version at stores.
Good news for any fence-sitters who were worried about the download version only being available to a single user account.
I might be weird, but I almost never consider the price of a game before I buy it. I don't even care about the PS3's rumoured big price drop. Not trying to be jerk about it, and I wouldn't call myself rich, either, but when it gets right down to it, 69 dollars for something you like to do is pretty good. And when when it comes down to saving 10-20 bucks on a game, I especially don't really care too much. 20 bucks is a lunch somewhere, you know? 69 dollars is a good supper with someone. And that's over in 20 minutes! (Depending on how tough your steak is.) A game, on the other hand, usually lasts me about 4-6 months. That's a pretty good return for my money.
Generally speaking, if there's a game I really, really want, the very last thing I think about is price. Then again, I don't put things on credit, so I have zero debt...so maybe I have a little more disposable income for fun things than others.
Having said that, I'm sure the price drop will sell a lot more games for Incognito. Maybe they'll actually have the game working properly by then. :p
I'm the opposite. The only games I will buy are the AAA games at $60 or the games that I must absolutely have.
There are other games that I would try and buy if they were at $40 but at $60 I write them off. GRAW 2 which is an excellent game but I will not spend $60 on it. Oblivion, I'd like to play it on PS3 but I already have it for PC but didn't get far in it, but at $40 I'd probably buy it for some change of pace.
Skate, I'm on the edge and I think it's worth $60 but at $40 I'd already have it as one of my games.
Only the games I'm truly looking forward to will get my $60
Ratchet and Clank
Eye of Judgment
Uncharted: Drake
That's coming out in Oct-November.
Speng

Yeah, me too. Maybe that's why I don't mind spending the money...I buy only the games I really want, as well. I wouldn't buy a game I wasn't interested in, no matter how cheap it was. Even the 10 dollar games at the Playstation store I won't buy if I don't have any interest in them. Has nothing to do with the price, is/was my point. I think. :p
The price drop might be enough to push me off the fence and buy Warhawk. Normally I will only buy games $60 if I am sure that I will enjoy them. I was more hesitant about Warhawk because it is online only, but if it is as good as everyone says, I think there is a good chance I will buy it for $40.

I agree completely, but it's obvious to me that some people do sweat the $10 or $20 difference and this could be helpful to them.
tingham 10-02-07, 07:29 AM It was not the money for me either. But I have been debating whether to download or buy the boxed version. I already have 2 Jabra Bt125's and did not want another. Also, the resale-value is better with the boxed version. So this is good news for me. Thanks
bdoyledimou 10-02-07, 07:58 AM Now i am annoyed...
After being bitten by the single player download because i didn't need the headset, they drop the price to what i paid with all the benefits of BR. (like a manual, and media, and being able to play it with more then one id..)
curtlots 10-02-07, 08:36 AM I'm also annoyed.
I would have gladly paid the extra $20 & wasted the headset vs. not being able to use the other sub accounts in my home had I known the download version was going to be crippled.

I agree. When I DL the thing I didn't expect it to lock my other accounts out. So what do I do? I bought the BR version last week. And now they've dropped the price:(

Go back to the store. They might price match for you. My local Sony Store does it for me all the time.
curtlots 10-02-07, 01:08 PM I think Sony should offer a coupon towards the purchase of the $40 retail version to appease everyone who is hurt by the sub-account "bug"
yakkosmurf 10-02-07, 03:47 PM I might pick it up at that price. I'm not wild about multiplayer stuff, so I wasn't going to pay $60 for it, but at $40, I might be willing to try it.

Bug? How is it a bug? I read about this limitation weeks before it was released. I don't know why it was seen by so many as a surprise.

But, it's not a price drop. It's a lower price on a different sku, as this one doesn't have the bluetooth headset.
