Maybe it's just me, but it just too annoying. I just got the new PSP slim, my first handheld, and it has 1 red pixel. I had that new-toy giddiness as I was opening it up and starting it, and there it was.. staring at me. Maybe if it was black it wouldn't be so bad. It's like the evil eye of imperfection.

I searched around, tried the "pixel fixer" video. It won't budge. So, I called tech support and they read me the standard line. "This is a known issue with LCDs, but it's not an indication of malfunction. Try it for a few weeks, and let us know if it effects the gameplay." It bugged me that they called it a non-malfunction. It's a broken pixel, if it's not malfunctioning, why the hell is it always red? Anyway, I told her that I know it won't "effect the gameplay", but it bothers me. She gave me the RMA number and said they'll replace it.

So, it's going to take "7 to 10 working days" after they receive it to get me a new one. Kinda lame, since I've been waiting for the new PSP for a while already. I don't know.. would you guys return it?

This "non malfunction" point of view is outdated with regards to small LCDs. I can see that on a 1080p 32" or greater screen it might be impossible to get yields to be pixel free, but small LCDs have been clear of pixels (for the most part) for 4 years+ now. Return it. Pixels are not the norm on these displays anymore. You will likely not get another one with the same problem.

totally stinks but you are going to bite the bullet and return it, if not every single time you turn that thing on you will be reminded that it is not perfect, since you are here on avs you are in search of a/v perfection so im sure this would always bother you
Im just trying to put myself in your shoes, you are s.o.l.

Return it, you wont regret getting a perfect one

Where did you buy it? Best Buy(and I'm sure other stores) have a 30 day return policy on their items, you should be able to take it there and swap it for another one so you don't have to wait for it to be shipped out and a new one shipped back.

You could get a replacement with 5 dead pixels . . . and so on.
Keep returning it aslong as Sony pays for the shipping both ways.

As with any new electronics, leave it powered on for atleast 24 hours to see if it is going to break early on.

Here's the quote straight from the support page (http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PSP/Hardware/s_psp_hs_PI.html)
On some LCD screens, black spots might appear, or red, blue, or green spots may remain on the screen. This is part of the production process and is not a malfunction.
I bought it from Buy.com. I thought about checking their return policy, but the documentation that came with the PSP said, specifically, if you have problems with the LCD, do not return it to the retailer, call SCEA support.
Anyway, I'm just waiting for the e-mail with the packing instructions. I'm going to return it. Thanks for validating my obsessiveness :D.

I would return it. I had to return a number of Nintendo DS because dead/stuck pixels would bother me. Just keep returning it till you get the perfect one since you paid for it.

I would return it. I bought a PSP slim for my wife and have been checking it from time to time all week since we bought just to check for any dead/stuck pixels.

Well, I returned 3 TVs because of stuck pixels. Didn't even think twice about it. You pay the money, you should be happy with it. If you don't return it, it'll always bug you. It would me, anyway.
