View Full Version : Socom: Confrontation??????
Dball2323 10-01-07, 04:59 PM I did a search hoping to find some updated news regarding Socom: Confrontation. The only thing I could find was dated back to June. Does anyone have any good info regarding the next installment?
I heard rumors of a fall release date but could not find anything confirmed. I hope the love for this game has NOT been lost. I am in serious need of my fix for a new Socom.
instantpop 10-01-07, 05:34 PM Last thing I saw in regards to Socom: Confrontation was news of a delay until '08, which is said because it was on my holiday hot list.
freestyle 10-01-07, 05:39 PM There was no delay actually... the game magazines just changed their dates from Q4 07 to Early '08.
Officially the only thing ever said was back at the Sony Gamer's Day in San Diego. The producer said they're "aiming" for a holiday release.
The most recent official info came here on the Official Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/07/03/inside-the-developers-studio-seth-luisi/).
And I was lucky enough to get an interview with Seth Luisi at E3 this year... See here (http://newswire.tacticalopsunit.com/2007/07/11/socom-confrontation-various-details-from-seth-luisi/) for that.
Oh yeah! And I forgot... A developer from Slant Six has posted 7 times at the PSU forums... Here's a link to all 7 of those posts (http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/tracker?user.id=1611319) in the same thread.
With all the games coming out this year, they might as well push it back till next year. Who has enough money to get everything that's coming out as it is?
Dball2323 10-01-07, 06:30 PM Thanks for the links, freestyle.
As popular as the Socom franchise has been I would have expected to see much more praise for this title. I can recall having discussions about Socom being much more popular than a rival’s consoles equivalent. I am sad to say that those days are definitely a thing of the past.
Good point, awx. But most gamers always used to put money aside for this franchise.
Thanks again

Yes... it's a big sore spot with the remaining SOCOM faithful. :(
There was a time right before the release of Halo 2 where SOCOM II had higher nightly numbers than ALL games on the entire Xbox Live universe...
Those days are long gone... I saw 520K+ on Halo 3 last night.
instantpop 10-01-07, 08:03 PM I hope that their 'aim' for a holiday release is true.
freestyle 10-01-07, 09:51 PM since there is no word of a beta yet, I'd guess that holidays are unlikely

For me money isn't the problem. I just don't have enough time to play all of the games that I want to.
drudiggs 10-02-07, 10:04 AM This game is at the top of my list and I would love to see an '07 release, but if the '08 delay is to ensure a quality experience I can live with that, albeit grudgingly. I just hope Slant Six doesn't crap on its online community like Zipper did (i.e., slow-to-come patches, promised new maps that never came, weak enforcement of glitchers).

Yeah, that's a big problem too. Spacing out the multiplayer games is even more important.
pHaZmaTis 10-07-07, 06:20 AM Personally, I have friends who are waiting to buy a ps3 until they release socom. IMO Sony made a huge mistake by not making Socom a priority release for the ps3. I'm not saying that it would have increased sales by the millions, but it would increase them none the less. Socom was sony's most popular online franchise at one point and had a very dedicated group of followers, so I don't understand why they have not been more forthcoming with information on it. Big Mistake.
Yeah, hopefully Socom will be supported and hyped like a franchise property should be.
Azzkker 10-07-07, 01:45 PM i think confrontation is trying to become socom 2 reincarnated, by that i mean they are taking the socom 2 gameplay and tweaking the low points the game originally had. i think they will do a good job on it and im sure it will feel like socom.
dont pay any attention on the playstation forums as those "faithful" socom players will bitch about anything and everything. i beta tested socom3 and everyone i played with and talked to loved how it was turning out. then when the game came out they changed some of the weapons power and range (people bitched about the shotgun being to powerful, full auto m16 with silencer etc.) so zipper changed the game to suit what everyone wanted. when the game came out everybody was bitching because they made the changes that people wanted. its a lose lose situation with that particular crowd, about the same as the halo people when halo 2 came out.
with big name games like socom and halo the more the game is streamlined and tweaked the more of a chance you take of pissing off the original game fans.
thanks
