That was my reaction, too.
The BDA folks have decided Profile 1.1 aka Final Standard Profile is now going to be known as Bonus View. That sounds an awful lot like Profile 1.0 will remain "standard view" forever and "Blu-ray compliant post Oct 31" players will offer "bonus view" material.
Sad, really.
Blu-ray has de facto decided Profile 1.0 is "good enough" and the baseline for the format: no Internet, no dual video stream, no need to match a simple $199 HD DVD player. And it's still okay to charge $500 for the logo.
Yup, it's marketing. They have to make Profile 1.0 look like the standard so that people don't get upset that they paid major coin for something incomplete. When 1.1 players come out, they're not "first standard profile" anymore ... now they're "bonus view" players.
They're making it out like Profile 1.0 was always 'normal' Blu-ray and 1.1 is now a Bonus to the format -- when in reality, they always knew they'd be dumping Profile 1.0 players as soon as they could get 1.1 and 2.0 to work.
It's just spin ... *shrug*
