As you know guys, I will soon have a working crt projector. I found a product called CRT White Screen Goo. It's a bit pricey. Can't we achieve using paints we buy from HomeDepot/Lowes like Behr, RL, etc?
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil

yeah basically anything will work, the guy who demoed my marquee used a fiber screen (it looked yellow:eek:) and the picture still looked awesome:)
Do not buy anything pricey unless your planning to use a really large screen since crt projectors aren't as bright as digitals..

I'm aware of the limitation of my 1271. I've read that when I run @ 8ft or more, it will not be sharp anymore. However, I still want to watch at 8.5+ ft. I saw another screenshot yesterday of his 1272 and he was using a 103.5" x 44" screen. However, I don't know if it's true since jpeg files can be corrected. :D Also, fyi, the crt pj will be in a dedicted ht room in the basement. It will be very dark.
Thanks.

Look for a used screen. Most walls are never truly straight and you will notice the "wavyness".

There is also an entire sub-forum dedicated to screens. You will find lengthy discussions on these topics and this product there.

Painted screens on sheet rock, a non smooth material really suck. A white bed sheet works better and hell a CRT FP doesn't deserve more anymore. (just kidding).

I went the "stretcher-frame and blackout cloth" route, then later painted this screen with Ultra Premium White (high titanium dioxide) thinned with flowtrol and sprayed with an autobody sprayer.
The PQ is good for the cost, but the Wilsonart route will probably be better/faster/cheaper. I was thinking of doing one myself, contact adhered to 1/4" luan ply for stiffness.
