I've figured this has been coming for about a month now, I'm surprised they waited so long to say it since I've heard a lot of strong gossip it was running behind. Definitely sucks, but i don't really mind that much since there will be plenty of games this holiday season to keep me occupied, specifically Haze and Uncharted for my shooters. This actually solves the dilemma of getting either UT3 or Haze first. :D

pretty messed up considering all the statements rein was making to the contrary.Rein is always saying things that are contrary to his earlier statements. Take everything he says with a mine of salt.

Unfortunately, this is from Midway.

^^

Actually he just released another statement on the epic forums.

As a public company, Midway felt an obligation to its shareholders to let them know about the possibility of a delay. But our goal is still to get the PS3 version of UT3 in stores before the end of 2007. However, we will only ship it once it’s ready and is the best game we can deliver. The PC version is still on track for a November release.

Yes, there is a chance it will come out in December.

In addition there is some good news as well. A little extra time in development means that now the PS3 version will have all of the same maps as the PC version which wasn’t previously expected to be the case.

things seemed as if they were going so well on the PS3 version... Mark Rein was bragging about how development on PS3 is doing better than it was with GeoW last year... this is going to hurt sales of UT3 on PS3 BIG TIME.

Well sounds like they aren't sure if it will be delayed but not surprising considering Gears was also delayed by them. As long as they don't rush it out then I'm all for a delay, plenty of other titles coming this holiday season that I want.

at least theres some good news out of this... (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25003739&postcount=20)

for those of you that didn't know, they were going to leave 2 maps out of the PS3 version because they didn't run well on PS3.

Mark Rein has very little credibility. It seems he really doesn't know what's going on in his own development dept. He says lots of stuff, most of which doesn't turn out to be true.

Yet another delay. :(

Soon
Only
Not
Yet

..seems to be holding true.

At least there will be more maps. :)

Who wants to bet that Haze will be delayed 2 weeks to possible 3 months? I honestly called it to myself this was going to get delayed.

I don't really see any reason Haze would be delayed, theres a steady flow of information and a decent amount of footage and stuff like that. When was the last time you saw signs of progression on UT3..... Thats what i felt really gave it away, the lack of info and screens and video.

actually, i am quite surprised it has been delayed on PS3. the majority of media shown so far has been of the PS3 version. and again, Mark Rein kept bragging about how well development was going and that they're further along than Gears was last year. also from videos shown so far, it runs buttery smooth.

as for Haze, it is a completely different situation than UT3 because Free Radical is focusing completely on a single version whereas Epic has to release it on 2 platforms and they know the PC platform is where it began and where their fans are.

Midway Encountering Unreal Engine Issues on PS3
Area 51: Blacksite latest to suffer unexpected delay.
By Patrick Klepek, 10/02/2007

Not long after Midway announced Unreal Tournament 3 would be moving out of the 2007 release timeframe on the PlayStation 3, Midway CEO David Zucker held a conference call to address how this would affect their financial situation through the rest of the year.
Zucker was very specific about the company's roadblocks on the PS3 platform, citing "technical issues with the Unreal Engine 3.0" with finishing work on the PS3 versions of Stranglehold and Area 51: Blacksite. Consequently, Area 51: Blacksite will be arriving three weeks after the Xbox 360 and PC versions drop at the end of October, while Stranglehold remains an unspecified fourth quarter release.

Midway says the technical issues on the PS3 have been ironed out, however, and following the release of Unreal Tournament 3 in early 2008, they expect the PS3 versions to arrive date and date with Xbox 360 and PC SKUs going forward.

If the above I post is accurate I really think it is more financial decision than engine issues. They would be better off making all ports available day and date.

maybe they'll also work on the PC/PS3 system.

It's not written well.

What he is trying say, that games AFTER UT3 should be day and date on all 3 platforms since the PS3 issues have now been resolved.

Same-ol-same-ol from this company, they've been an "eventually" dev since the original Unreal.

I dont think it will be a HUGE blow, theres not a TON of people rushing out to buy a ps3 just because of UT3. Mostly the people that are excited for it already have a ps3.

Its sad though because UT3 up until now was a bright shining spot on the dull armor of ps3 releases.

Is that statement from Midway saying the PC UT3 released has been pushed back to '08 also?

This crew needs to get its crap together.

Ya, it should still be out in November. THats when UT3 was supposed to be out anyway. I'll definitely be playing orange box. Until then, Madden, then Folklore, then Ratchet and Crank.

Don't know if it is accurate, but it says that UT3 will come out in November. I would think there would be an official announcement if it was true, but we'll see.

i doubt it will make November. December is possible though. i think it will have to be released before the holidays or it will hurt PS3 sales significantly (UT3 on PS3 that is, not the PS3 itself).

btw, there is a video at IGN telling some of the story for the SP campaign (no spoilers).

Epic has hedged their bets by letting the stock holders know that it may slip to 2008 although there's a glimmer of hope that they may get it done by the end of the year. The UT3 boards are chock full of posts BEGGING Mark to get it done this year. The game is amazing and i'd rather deal with a delay to get a "finished" product than something rushed. Although something rushed by Epic is better than anything EA has worked on for years. ;)

For the PS3, Orange Box has been delayed "a few weeks" past the Oct. 9th PC and 360 releases. It's tentatively scheduled for release in early December. However, never trust a "release date" until a title has gone gold. Come mid-November, we'll likely hear a "we've gone gold" or "we're delaying release until early '08."

Also, the majority of the major delays lately have been Epic-related (Stranglehold, UT3, Blacksite 51). So hopefully, most every other major publisher has gotten a decent hold on their PS3 development. The fact that Assassin's Creed and CoD4 are on schedule is very good news.

Moreover, let's not lament delays; EA's shoddy sports games for PS3 show us why delays are better than incomplete ports. Better a delay than a piece of junk.
