- They're still optimizing the frame rate, will end up running at constant 30 fps. Sometimes it goes up to 45 fps with all effects on, but they aim at constant 30 fps as already mentioned. Less than 30 fps is considered a bug.

- All textures have been drawn, there are no scanned textures. That's why it looks somewhat cartoony.

- Jetski level has 6 million polygons + water reflection + refraction + bump mapping + jitter + shadows + a good number of characters + physics + AI + volumetric explosions + etc :-p

- It should take 12 hours to complete.

- The AI will learn your behavior and react accordingly. Experienced gamers will have a hard time. They're proud of the AI.

- There are no scripted events when you fight with the AI. You'll never see the same situation twice (to some extent, of course).

- No auto-aim.

- The effects still aren't final. They'll improve close to the very end of the project for optimization's sake.

- There's a lot of stuff we haven't seen yet. It's like a movie where a lot of things happen, and it will have lots of varied action: shooting, fighting, platforming, puzzles, enigmas, races, treasure hunting ("you'll be finding things"), etc.

- Real time HDR lighting: if there's a sunset, everything on screen will have a reddish tone. Everything will be real time.

- 720p allows better geometry. We might not see anything better than Uncharted geometry-wise at 1080p.

- PS3 devkits let them know all the game stats when they're developing it (duh): GPU load, texture memory, level memory, shadow memory, buffers, how is streaming affected, frame rate, etc.

- "I love the AI. The fact that it learns from the player's actions and that it adjusts the difficulty itself is awesomenage. We haven't even exploited half of what the Cell can do. Besides the CPU power, we've got the GPUs (sic) inside the PS3, where you can send some tasks to spare Cell from "digesting" them, so that you get more free CPU time. PS3 still has a lot of untapped power."

- They didn't have the time to include a co-op mode and getting the game finished in November. Tons of ideas left out of it, might make it to Uncharted 2. (This is usual in game development)

- Nathan Drake has 3000 animations.

- Real time cutscenes, no prerendered stuff. It's all real time, in-engine.

I'm loving the stuff about the A.I., and from the latest videos a week ago we saw, the A.I. looked damn good. One of the most impressive A.I I've seen in a long time when it comes to console games.

Naughty Dog are the best. I can't wait to see the next Jak & Daxter running on an improved Uncharted engine! :D

I'm somewhat confused by the 720p geometry comment.

Does anyone know if this game will support 960x1080 for those of us with 1080i only sets?

Probably will be 720p only but only time will tell.

This game is gonna be sweet, one of the few shorter single player games I'll get, definitely looking to be worth it.

3000 animations? That is insane. I can't wait for this game.

So is there no online mode?

12 hours? That's it?

Oh well, I like to take my time, so it might be longer for me anyway.

To your first question:

Screen resolutions have nothing to do with geometry. A common misconception has 720p/1080p allowing developers to use higher polygon models. This is not true. A 300,000 poly model can be rendered at 640x480 thru 1920x1080, it makes no difference. In fact, poly counts haven't increased as much as you think since last gen games, you'll still encounter plenty of blocky looking models.

Texture resolutions, on the other hand, have increased, a result of the ability of hdtv's to resolve higher resolution images over larger screen sizes. For example a 1024x1024 texture map will look "higher-rez" at 720p on a 42 inch screen than it will at 720p on a 60 inch screen.

Hope that helps, sorry I don't have the answer to your second question.

Upscaling to 1080 should not be a problem for them, it would be inexcusable to not support it for those who need it, I suggest rying all you can to contact them and let hem know, post on blogs, games sites etc

Its like Gears of War (Xbox360) or Heavenly Sword (PS3) games....but in reality most players spend a lot more time completing it. I don't know where they get a play times from, must be some sort of worst case scenario (run through it without doing anything).

But most estimated play times could easily x2 to get even near most players spend.

Thanks vermintrex, it was just making no sense to me that one resolution would be more adept at geometry than the other, I'm glad I'm not alone. :p

I hope you're right coney, I'm going to go to ND's website and try and email a couple questions and hope I get an answer. I'd hate for this to not support 1080 output.

12 hours is about average for game length man. That's what GoW and RE4 was.

I just hope this game has as much replay value as they did.

No, YOU'RE raising the hype to extremely high levels. All they're doing is advertising/marketing their product.

I don't get excited about lists of tech specs anymore.

I hope the game is fun.

Me too. I don't like to blow through games (unless they're rented).

With the whole geometry resolution thing, I think they mean running it at a lower resolution of 720, rather then 1080p allowed them to have higher poly counts because of the performance gained with running lower resolutions.

Just wasn't worded correctly.

Benkrishman

Yeah, the wording on the geometry comment was very weird.

I NEVER get through a game as quickly as some of the braggers on the internet claim. It takes at least twice as long the way I play.

even Star Fox Adventures? ;) Unless my memory is faulty weren't the dev's originally saying like 70 hours?

I don't know, but it seems like the time shortens everytime you hear someone talk about this subject. GeOW now takes just under 15 minutes to complete, while H.S. can appearently be done during a commercial break on G4. It's like they're playing on meth or something - and I didn't even know these were timed events.

lol, though meth is not cool at all!

Did you know that you can beat Super Mario 64 in 21 minutes? :P

Seriously, you can beat SM64 in 21 min. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n10fQJHmSk8)

OMG, I watched a few minutes of that video. That game was so amazing. Such great memories.

Besides Mario Kart and Goldeneye, it was really all downhill on the N64 after that.

Heh, I am not, I've learned not to buy into anything until it is out.

One purpose of advertising/marketing is to generate hype...

6:47 only if you cheat and use a gameshark. :P The 21 min. version is legite and makes use of various glitches present in the original game.
