View Full Version : Sears guy: 1080p better than 720p for SD content
firefox1 10-02-07, 08:09 PM Is this true? I thought that 720P was best for SD television such as regular digital cable channels. I though that it didnt have to upscale as much so it was better. So now, I have to wait till the price comes down on those 1080p tvs. :(
Rhino5167 10-02-07, 08:12 PM I missed the boat on the PZ 700U about a week and half ago at Sears...they had it for a killer price and 2 yrs no interest!
tower101 10-02-07, 09:14 PM Its depends more on the video procssor then the res of the panel.
Rhino
you have not gotten a new TV yet? :p
Rhino5167 10-02-07, 09:20 PM No I had to wait for some work to be done in the room where the set will go in. It will be done in a few weeks.
tower101 10-02-07, 09:20 PM Bummer
Rhino5167 10-02-07, 09:26 PM I am thinking the 700U or the 750U...not much sunlight in the room it will be going. I saw the 77U this weekend, I think I prefer the picture of the 700U.
tower101 10-02-07, 09:36 PM No sun light and no lights then the 700 would be the way to go.

Well there are two small windows to the left of the set and a ceiling fan with a light...but I can control the light and sunlight for the most part

So now, I have to wait till the price comes down on those 1080p tvs. :(My 42PZ700U displays analog and digital SD cable a little better than my former 42PX50U 768p set. Certainly the processing and colors are probably better on the new 1080p set, but the higher resolution contributes to the picture quality as it makes the image look more natural largely due to the lack of SDE. I compared them side by side a few times displaying a split signal from my HDMI splitter.
ApacheBL 10-04-07, 01:28 PM You NEED to check out a FRYS.COM. I just ordered my PZ700U on Tuesday after extensive research here and elsewere. Frys has an amazing price, and free shipping. For me, there was also no tax. Seriously, well worth checking out.

New user here (first post).
After reading your post, I just checked out the Fry's deal. Very nice! But I'm still on the fence between the Panny PZ700U and the new PZ77U. How did you arrive at your decision on the PZ00U?
Help me get off the fence! :)
Rhino5167 10-04-07, 01:47 PM The big decision comes down to whether sunlight or lighting will be a factor. If your room has many windows or alot of lamps then you may want to go with the 77U. If light isnt a factor then most would say 700U. I personally like the picture of the 700U better...I like the glossy, 3-D effect that the 700U gives...just my .02
Rhino5167 10-04-07, 02:11 PM The price keeps changing slight at FRYS.COM...

See, this proves that even Sears employees are smarter than BB employees!

This will not be a problem at all.
I regularly watch my 700U in a well lit room with a full sliding glass door to the left of the set.
With brightness and picture settings in the 20s for most BR/PS3 games, and slightly lower brightness for increased contrast when watching SD television, the set looks great.
All of this, the 700U is too dim nonsense is a bunch of hype with no substance.
If you have a big window directly behind your seating area, that might cause a glare issue. Side windows with blinds are no big deal.

Glare really isn't much of an issue for me. I'm pulling the trigger on the 700U as I type this. The Fry's deal is sweet!

The fact they throw in shipping is good.
Of course I guarantee you that in 1 month; you'll be able to find it cheaper. Its just how things work!

I hope so because I cant get my set until a month....:D
Rhino5167 10-04-07, 02:40 PM No chance that Sears would match the FRYS price + tax, is there???
ApacheBL 10-05-07, 04:23 PM They wouldn't here (neither would BB or CC). My decision was a tough one as well. I stood in front of the 77U and the 700U for about 15 min at 3 diff stores. I just didn't like the picture on the 77U as much. I felt the anti-glare screen made the picture lose some vivid-ness, some sharpness (compared to the 700U) with identical settings, and even with the 77U cranked up a bit. Plus, I really wanted the better speakers in the 700U, and the 10000:1 ratio of the 77U vs. the 5000:1 of the 700U was never visable to me.
BTW, I did see that the Frys deal went up about $90 from when I got it, but still a great deal imo.

don't forget about the "Sam's club guy".
Rhino5167 10-05-07, 07:45 PM Sears still has the 700U for a great price, IMO...but it is only till tomorrow....they also told me that they are trying to move away from plasma and focus more on LCD. They went into their pitch of IR and burn in and how more customers want the LCD yadda yadda...if you plan on going tomorrow and want to know what the price is IM me, I am trying to respect the rules of NOT posting prices other than MSRP...
