My inlaws recently gave me a 13 year old 60" Mitsubishi CRT RPTV. It had been sitting in their garage for a few years when I got it so I pulled the back cover off and blew out all the dust with my compressor. Now I want to clean the lenses and the inside of the sreen but I don't know what would be safe to use for that. Im assuming it would be ok to use windex for the mirror but I don't want to do anything till I get some advice.

Also...

I have been having picture problems and Im wondering if it can be fixed be a repair man. Right now as I am typing this my PC is hooked up to the S-video (1994 standard def.) and I have resized this window to fill only the bottom half of the screen with a black backround/desktop. If I drag the window to the top of the screen and make the top 1/3 to 1/4 of the screen bright I get squiggly (spellcheck?) lines from left to right. Drag the window back to the bottom, it stops. Not just on PC though, cable, DVDs too. Whenever the top of the screen gets bright, squiggly lines pull from left to right. Can this be fixed? Is this a common problem?

Also...

I have done the calibration with for the blue and red with the crosshairs but the far right side is still fairly off. Can a repair man fix this? Remember, it was built in 1994.

Thanks,

Obviously you inlaws don't like you very much. :p

In all honesty putting any money into this set would be the equivalent of taking your dead dog to the vet. I'd recommend goodwill, trash, random drop infront of Best Buy...just wouldn't be worth the $ and effort.

I must say I agree...no piece of 13-year old CE equipment is worth keeping (except maybe as a collectible).

That thing must be weighted like a ton! I can't believe you even drag that to your home.

I've got a opo for hd component, and it dosn't look bad I've done avia on it and it got lots better, But I've never cleaned the lens or mir.1(do I take off the top to clean the lens. I can't get in from the front grills. looked threw the back and could not see the tops of the guns. dos the front panal come off or am I better off splitting top and bottem.) read that I was to use glass+ on lens or is there something better? The miror on mine is not glass do I need to use something other than glass cleaner? any help would be great I think If I could start over fresh and clean it could still look great. ps. just retired not a lot of money laying around. want to say this set for a long time. Thanks for any help you could give.

Remove the screen to get to the optics. Sprayway cleaner from Costco or Ace Hardware does a very good job cleaning. Make sure your cleaner is ammonia free. Be gentle and thorough. You'll see a HUGE difference in PQ.
