Ok, my friend contacted me about this TV a few days ago...unfortunately my electronic skill is limited to car audio. So what is everybodies take on this TV. He moreso wants the TV for the size of it rather than the HD capability. HD would be nice and he would use it but the big thing is 42". So basically what I'm asking is is the TV worth the best buy discount price? Also I'm going to talk him into an HD DVD player, perhaps a PS3 or XBOX 360 so he can enjoy movies the way they were meant to be enjoyed. So with the aforementioned products what would one need to purchase along with the TV and PS3 or XBOX 360? HDMI cable? ect...what all need to be purchased to make everything work? He said the guy at BB said something about a surge protector box that wires all components into the same protection box...but we all know how well BB knows their stuff. As far as HT goes, a HTIB will be good enough for him so don't need any advice there. but to sum up.

is the TH-42PX75U by panasonic a good entry level HD TV for 950 bucks
What all needs to be bought to make the TV work with PS3/XBOX 360?

Thanks in advance

Chris

great pdp. I have a pio 5070 and a tosh 32lcd and the 75u. I have to say this thing was pretty good out of the box. I first bought a sammy4254, i loved the way it looked. Its speakers are the worst i have ever heard and the thing got a dead pixil in 2 weeks.

there are 3 things i do not like about the 75u. 1 no pc input. 2 the remote is really cheap looking, and last the pdp though black is good, does not look as good as say the 77u.

however, for a 1st or everyday use its perfect. My 42 is used by my wife and 2 year old son all day long and the sd on it i think is better then the sammy.

Go for it.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. but I'm still working on the up and up with the acronyms. PDP? I assume price dollar performance but would rather be sure. also would you say the 77u is worth the jump? 400 bucks is quite the jump for just a few extra features. If someone could enlighten me I'd really appreciate it.

thanks,

Chris

"pdp" = plasma display panel (I think)

I believe the 2nd comment above is he's making a statement about the "look" of the panel itself - that the black color is nice to have now [as the last few years Pannys had stands with silver color] - but he prefers the cosmetic design of the 77U model instead.

I think that's what he means. :)

I agree with Rusty Pelican he was talking about the cosmetics of the 77U over the 75U. The panel itself is exactly the same. and PDP is plasma display panel. It is a very good performing panel. I don't care to much about the remote that comes with the TV as I use a harmony remote for my home theater system.

If you mean PX77U, not the new PZ77U, Sears cleared them out for $1099. I saw it at 6ave for 1098 with free curb side shipping. PZ77U is somewhere around 1400 - 150 at Sears.

Anti-glare of 77u over 75u might worth waiting.
