Does that little 40mm fan at the end of the heatsink tunnel between the H and V boards 'suck from it' or 'blow into it'? Mine died and I replaced it but cannot tell which was it went. :)
BTW the sony replacement is USD$211

40mm fan at my local electronics shop was ~USD$10 and fits fine. Hopefully does the job too. :)
Thanks
My 1252 seems blows air out of the case.
On some of the fans, there's a lable that can be lifted and a drop of oil can
resurect the fan, and can work for a few more years.

So it sucks air from the heatsink tunnel and blows it out of the case?
I think the oil thing caused it to fail. It was noisy and I oiled it a few years back which fixed it but now it's quite stiff to turn so I think the oil got a bit sticky. I probably didn't use the right type of oil - maybe should have been silicone lubricant or some very fine machine oil. I think I just used something I found for my bicycle gearing at the time. :)

Smithnz, what model fan did you replace it with? I've got gobs of 44mm fans around but they haven't got the rotation sensor. My 1271 runs great except one of the fans only starts up in half of its stop positions, which is kind of a pain... :)
(Tried oiling it; it's actually not draggy or loud at all. Just won't start half the time. I'm guessing one or two of the windings are shorted.)
use some wd40 to flush out the old oil.

I used the same as this one:

Seems to do the job nicely - screw holes in same location, etc. Wiring different but only took 1min to switch the wires over in the connector. I didn't use the sensor wire as they have been known to be troublesome sometimes.
Probably could have spent an hour fixing the other with WD40 one but knowing my luck it probably still wouldn't go. :)
