- IO-Data Linkplayer2; (1) downstairs connected to 55" Sony using D4 to Component and (1) upstairs connected to a 37" HP HDTV using D4 to component
- Both players are wired
- Been using Linkplayer2 for just over two years with zero issues related to streaming but the DVD player can be noisy.
- I bought the first one 2+ years ago for $249 and the 2nd one 2 months ago for $120 at CompUSA
- I mostly stream SD mpeg2, HD ts (will stutter at bitrates above 18Mb/s) with AC3, AAC and mpeg audio.
- I occasionally do digital picture slide show with mp3 music. The pictures display quite nicely and the audio is ok. If you are an audofile then the LP2 may be limiting in terms of file setup for thousands of songs for example.
- Using WIZD (freeware) as the server software I also can watch DivX, DivX HD, WMV, WMV HD, mp4, Nero Digital (latest version) and DV avi. BTW WIZD comes in both Windows and Linux versions. It is an EXECUTABLE that does require an OS but it is not installed and it uses pretty much zero resources.
WIZD also is very flexible when it comes to network sharing, nearly unlimited number of root directories, folders, drives ect. You can even have a specified Video Name that is associated with numerous folders/drives.
- I stream video files from a linux server and from two other Windows PCs. The WIZD server software executable resides on the Linux server and it serves both Linkplayer2s. And yes we can watch the same show on both TVs simultaneously or we can watch different shows simultaneously.
- I record(time shift) shows using my old P4 family pc, watch and delete. WIZD has an optional function that allows file deletion using the remote.
- This setup is full WAF approved and as I said has been in use on a daily basis for 2+ years.

The main issues with the LP2 are that the DVD player is marginal, support is hard to come by (fortunately I have never required any) and it does not have NFS capability. The server software that comes with the LP2 is OK but WIZD really makes a significant improvement.

The strengths of the LP2 are simple setup, rock solid day in and day out performance, never locks up or requires rebooting, if the network is operable then the LP2 is ready to go. Fairly wide variety of video and audio formats.

I looked for nearly a year for a different media player brand before purchasing the 2nd LP2 unit. I was looking for something that played higher bit rate ts but the tradeoffs associated with potential media players were not worth the switch.

If you are looking for H264, mkv and really high bitrate capability then IMO I would wait 6-12 months to see what new media players come out with that use the new sigma design chip set.

Happy hunting....

Beyond TV to capture over the air HD to a server pc.

Wizd to serve the files.

JVC DVD100U (Linkplayer2 clone) with DVI out to home theater projector.

Works well, Looks spectacular.
