Great going Directv!

Just checked out the channels (I don't have the sports package or Cinemax)

Looks like USA, SciFi and Bravo are OAR!!!

I get channel not purchased when tuning to HBOWHD.

*Edit*

Just got off the phone with Direct, they are aware of the issues with HBOWHD and are working on it. Said it's an issue with my account since I'm on one of the older packages (Total Choice Plus) not offered any longer.

Fantastic news. I have a question about channel tuning..

I setup a custom channel list after the first wave of HD adds to only tune the HD versions of the channels, skipping the SD's. And it works great when your flipping up and down, but, when I punch the channel in directly, it goes to the SD version. I have to flip up/down then back to get the HD version. Is there a workaround on this?

Thanks,
Matt

Your local rsn is available to you without the sports pack. In order to get the rest of the rsns that aren't local to you you'll need the sports pack.

FOOD NET HD.

FOOD NET HD was on last night! (D* that is) No joke. It was sometime between 10pm and 11pm CDT. I was watching Unwrapped on Food Network and brought up the channel guide and there it was right after Food Network. I switched to it and it was showing programming that appeared to be HD. When I checked back around 11pm it wasn't in the guide anymore.

Yes. I basically got this situation taken care of just yesterday. I missed the fight in HD because I decided to upgrade to the premium package for 99.99 and some how I ended up losing all the HD channels that I had available like 73-79 and lost HBO and Showtime that I had with the HDDVR package. Basically the fix was for a supervisor approval and they couldn't figure that out all weekend until yesterday the customer service rep for some reason didn't have authorization to change the package so ended up with no HD channels. Eventually Directv came out yesterday and everything has been resolved. I found out I had a diplexer hooked up with my equipment for the off-air antenna when it should have a straight coaxial going to the HD-DVR. That resolved another issue I was dealing with losing channels (searching for sat signal on 1 of 2 etc)

Mine was the same in the den on H20 but went to the HR20 in the family room and was recieving HBOWHD. Am doing a a reset and update on the H20 and it found new software. I will let you know if this does not fix the problem.

I found out I had a diplexer hooked up with my equipment for the off-air antenna when it should have a straight coaxial going to the HD-DVR

I'm also getting 771... so to fix this I need to have a straight coaxial line from the switch to the reciever without any interruption? I don't remember if I have a diplexer, but I don't think so... I have the OTA line separate... I DO have cable into the switch and the signal travels on the same line, but I doubt that would be a problem... or would it?

Sorry for the confusion but basically it was 3 different things going on at one time. When I was able to recieve my HD and new HD channels, I got a message saying I need to now purchase DVR service . So the tech gets back on the phone tells them my DVR service isn't activated and when they activated it I lost my HD channels again. Went through the whole process again and eventually got my HD and DVR channels working all at the same time. My local channels for some reason I had a diplexer outside with the dish and off-air antenna(they are not supposed to use diplexers)
All I know is that after upgrading to the premium and losing all my channels including locals, Directv had issues they had to fix on their which resulted in a supervisor override and the tech basically rewired all my cables for free including taking off the diplexer.

The orginal call was trying to resolve an issue I have had since having it installed in March. Why are my channels just dropping out randomly from digital to HD channels saying "searching for sat signal 1 of 2 (771)
When restarting the reciever it could not find the signal from the dish but the other rooms were recieving the signal just fine. Everytime this happen I would eventually out of the blue recieve the signal back but restarting the setup process did not solve anything. So far everything is working as should now, I have all my locals I have always had and I am recieving all my HD channels that are available. the only addition I had to get was a B-band converter for the HD-Reciever in the bedroom. I did double check and I do have 2 B-band converters for the HD-DVR.

I DO have cable into the switch and the signal travels on the same line, but I doubt that would be a problem... or would it

Based on this it sounds like you are in the same situation with the off-air just going a different route. The line should go direct from the off-air ant straight to the reciever(I am not getting my locals HD in the bedroom because of this) I assume they have it going to the switch because you have more than 1 HD reciever in the home? If you just have 1 HD reciever that line needs to go directly in the the reciever for the off-air coax.

:)Why do they resent the authorization?

“Resent” has two different meanings with two different pronunciations, both with the accent on the second syllable. In the most common case, where “resent” means “feel annoyed at,” the word is pronounced with a voiced Z sound: “I resent your implication that I gave you the chocolates only because I was hoping you’d share them with me.” In the less common case, the word means “to send again,” and is pronounced with an unvoiced hissy S sound: “The e-mail message bounced, so I resent it.”

I think he meant the 2nd meaning, but I thought of the 1st one as well. :)

The frustrating thing to me is that there are three full time HD channels (MHD, Food TV, and HGTV-HD) that they haven't turned on. Instead we get USA HD, Bravo HD, Animal Planet HD and others that hardly have ANY actual HD programming on them. I like the HD channels that I pretty much know any time of day I can flip to and watch real HD.

Just can not understand why a HD station such as A and E (and others) would take a good HD program (from the networks) and show same in a distorted manner. For me the SD version looks much better. Can not see why people would view the "HD" version of some of these stations. On the other hand, most channels are doing very nicely with presenting their HD channel programming. No way are some of these HD channels sending us HD programming and they should not be calling themselves HD. And I am not talking about channels sending us both HD and SD (in proper format; that is perfectly ok. )

As a Redskins fan who has been TIVO'ing CSN's SportsRise daily highlight show on CSNMidAtlantic for a few years, I'm happy because that studio show (with some highlights) is now available in HD. And I'll have to check out a few of the other CSN Redskins related shows to see if they too are presented in HD. IMHO it's a nice treat to watch stuff like this just for the better picture quality alone on a daily basis now.

I'm pretty sure the same holds true for NESN shows as well as YES shows (especially pre/post game shows).

Have a tech coming out Sunday morning, yeah thats' right, Sunday morning, hopefully we can get things fixed. However, yestarday all channels were great without any dropouts or blotches.

Well.....it's OAR HD/5.1 audio all the time. A/V quality is very nice.

After 2-3 days of living w/ MHD, you will find you may have seen it all. MHD hasn't added much in the way of new programming in nearly a year - save for "live" stuff like RnR Hall of Fame inductions/VMAs/VH1 "tribute" shows.

I've had MHD via Comcast for quite some time. Might be jumping to D* this weekend, and MHD won;t be a regualrly watched channel.

Good channel to show off HDTV/HT sound system, but good lord...they need some new programming.

USAHD - Channel not Purchased. (721).

Called CSR. Authorization signal sent. Nothing
Reset H-20. nothing.
Authorization signal sent. nothing
Transferred to technical support.
Authorization signal sent. nothing.
unplug H-20 for 20 seconds. nothing.
authorization signal sent nothing.
Tech now say the USAHD has not been turned on yet. Should be by the end of the week.

BravoHD, MHD I get. Not suppose to get SCIFIHD. All other HD channels that I am suppose to receive, I do.

Why would you not get Sci Fi HD?

Tom Cheney

Correct.

The Sports Pack RSN's only gets the non-professional sports programming. To see MLB, NHL, NBA, you need the corresponding subscription; Extra Innings, Center Ice, League Pass.

Note that a few of the RSNs (NESN and YES, in particular) also black out certain non-game shows with extensive mlb content, even for Sports Pack subscribers. The NESN pre- and post-game shows are available, but they black out all of the Weekly Rewind, Remy Report type shows (even their lame dating show) outside of New England. That said, it was great to be able to switch to the NESN post-game show in HD immediately after the the Red Sox-Angels game ended on TBS last night.

Are Center Ice/Sports Pack subscribers blacked out from NHL games?

I had the same problem with my HD channels showing 721 because my package is Total Choice Plus and they don't offer that anymore. It took about 30min but they finally found out how to do the reset and now I have the new channels.

Spent 30-minutes with another person at tech support. Still no USAHD. Most of the time was doing a total reset of of the STB using the Menu system. Was a complete waste of time.

SciFiHD is looking pretty good. I wasn't expecting it so soon and was pleasantly surprised to see SG Atlantis in HD. At first I though my format was set to crop but I realized the PQ was too good and then I saw the bug, which, although on the big side, is not overly intrusive. They seem to be doing everything right, so far.

I'm getting some audio drops but I'm sure they'll get it worked out.

The 4 Discovery channels, on the other hand, have been a huge disappointment. Even if it isn't distorted, it's an upconvert. Even programs that I've already seen in HD elsewhere, like American Chopper, are upconverted SD versions. Some shows that had been SD letterbox are stretched but not cropped. Nearly all their commercials are stretched. I have yet to see anything from them that is true HD. Having said that, when it isn't stretched it's still better than SD any day.

I spoke too soon. "Build It Bigger" on Science Channel looks to be HD now, although I could swear I saw it in stretched SD earlier today.

Another wasted 2 hours on the phone with DirecTv.

1 CSR who transferred me to tech support.

1 Tech support who said USAHD was on channel 34 and I was not suppose to get USAHD. Even Though I do get USA in SD. At which point he hung up on me.

1 CSR who transferred me to a supervisor.

This supervisor confirmed that indeed USAHD has be turned on. (Even though all of the CSRs have told me it not.) Supervisor confirmed that I am suppose to get USAHD with my program package. Supervisor then went to a conference call with another person in tech support.

With new tech support we pretty much went through all of the steps that I went through on Thur..

Still no USAHD. Another Tech appointment set for Wed. I have no idea what he will be able to do. To me, this still sounds like a back office problem but the tech guy says the problem is in the dish.

No dish problem unless you are missing more than just USAHDand or have terribly low levels on 103b, play CSR roulette and eventually you will find one that knows what to do.

That does seem odd. A 721 is an authorization issue as you know, so it will be interesting to hear how the tech department explains it to be a dish issue.

I suspect there is just something in how the system is interpreting your old package that they just haven't figured out. Is there that much difference in what you are paying now, to moving to one of the newer offerings? If it is only a matter of a few dollars, it might be worth switching just to avoid the hassle.

John,
Obviously as you know, USAHD will come in easily as long as you are getting the other new MPEG-4 channels.

Have you added it to your favorites if that's the kind of channel guide you use?

Have you seen if it's there under all channels?

Have you gone on-line and reset your receiver yourself?

Have you done a complete reset of the receiver at home?

One of these steps should work. Having a tech come to your house when you are getting all of the other new MPEG-4 channels is a waste of everyone's time; the 'problem' is the receiver.

Here's my on-going 721 messages saga:

So far, I've had D* reset my HD package, I've done both a hard reboot and soft resets on my receivers, (H-20, and an HR-20 700), I've had new diplexers installed, (I have archer type OTA antenna,) which now has weaker signal strength since last May when my DVR was installed, and I've had a slimline dish installed...and I hope they don't attempt to charge me for that one. With that, I still can't get all the new HDs all the time, that is to say, sometimes I can get them by going into the guide first and then hitting select, but sometimes not. I did get TBSHD for the first time last night. The only other thing I can think of is adding a 6x8 mulitswitch, since I want 3-rooms active at some point.

One thing that has been a consistent message with the Techs that have come out (I had 2 sets come out yesterday) was that the D* system does not like diplexers installed in it. They have said that the Dish Network system (Which one of the D* techs said he had) is much more tolerant of diplexers

Any thoughs...
Thanks

I get all of the other HD channels that I am suppose to.

USAHD shows up in the All channel guide and the HD channel guide.

Gone online and reset the receiver? If you me deactivate/activate program package(s) the answer is no. Since my main program package is no longer offered I would not be able to reactivate it. The HD access package would be another story.

About the only thing that has not been done to the receiver is to dis-assemble it and then put back together again.

I agree that that this is a back office 'software' issue but this what the tech support guy wants to do. My assumption is that tech support is going to be hardware oriented in problem solving. Therefore it's a hardware problem and they are probably correct 95% of the time. I think that this falls into the 5% column. Somehow I need to get to the department that handles the software issues. Somebody is going to have to declare this to be a software problem.

I just have the 1 box, H-20 and there are no multi-switches. The cable goes from the dish directly to the STB. My system was upgraded on 9/14 with the H-20 and a slimline 5 LNB dish.

Pull the diplexers and run the cable straight to the box from the dish. See if that changes anything. Where are your BBCs in relation to the diplexers?

There is a way to "refresh" your set top boxes from the directv website. You don't deactivate/activate anything. It helps clear up odd issues some times. I'll see if I can find the link.

The way they got me working was to totally remove my programming and add it back from scratch. The tech rep had to get special permission to do this. I looked at my bill online and it shows everything removed and added again. It still shows that I have Total Choice Plus.

Well I got the new receiver today and guess what. Still no USAHD. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

If there any other people who's only channel you do not get: Channel not purchased (721), is USA then please do the following:

If you are still not getting USAHD then I would like to suggest that you call DirecTV, get transferred to technical support. Ask the technical support person to take down the information and then forward it to a supervisor who is then suppose to forward to command central. Make a special note if your programming package is an old one that is no longer offered.
