View Full Version : How much $ to have someone hang a plasma on the wall?

I live in a 70-year-old house with plaster walls, and the idea of hanging a 42" plasma (65 pounds) on my bedroom wall has me spooked. (My home-improvement projects almost always look pretty spazzed out.) I won't be doing anything fancy... just hanging the thing on the wall, just above a table with the dvd, cable box, and maybe a sound-bar speaker (like the Yamaha YSP-800) .

Anyone had this done by a pro? How much did they charge?

Basic wall mount should cost less than $100, materials & labor included. Check your local for a handyman.

Extra info - you may run into a minor problem of wall mount plate placement in the center or exact location due to the location of the studs. If you don't mind, use a cut-to-fit 2x6" mount it to the studs w/ stainless screws and mount the wall mount plate to the 2x6" with supplied srews/bolts.

Cheers,
TP.

Thanks! But just to be clear... you're suggesting to screw into the wall a length of 2x6 situated horizontally between two studs (presumably a 16" length, but not necessarily, in an old house) and then attaching the tv mount plate anywhere along the 2x6?

Sounds like an excellent way to center it (particularly important for a bedroom tv) and also a stronger mount for a heavy tv.

Yes, that's correct. At the minimum, 4 bolts screw to the center of each of the studs (2 on the top & 2 bolts on the bottom of the 2x6" plate). The key is to locate the center of a stud to bolt it in. It would not be safe if, let say, 1/2" off ;-(

If you have adequate tools and plan to DIY, PM me for your private email address so I can reply w/ some pics to give you some visual ideas. Otherwise, a handyman can get it done in less than an hour, including cleaning up ;-)

Cheers,
TP.

Hang it with piano wire. That won't look bad.
