I am looking for step by step instructions to bi-amp my front speakers (Polk Audio RTI12) which are bi-ample.
I read the manual and I think the following would work:
1. Connect a pair of short RCA cables from the front pre-outs to an un-used input (VDP)
2. Disconnect bridges on speakers
3. Assign Zone 2 to VDP (thus making the pre-out signal thet same as the front signal)
4. Turn Zone 2 amplifier on using the remote
5. Adjust zone 2 level up to 0.0 as a starting point
6. Run speaker wire from From L & R to the high freq. on the speakers.
7. Run speaker wire from surround/multi to the lows on the speaker and voila.
Adjust the zone 2 volume level as necessary for listening pleasure.........please help if this is wrong or you can add anything to this..........

Note the steps taken to level-match the Zone2 output with the front channel output prior to removing the jumpers.

Thanks a lot for the link.....the other directions I found gave me some nasty feedback.......
BTW I noticed in a short time you are very helpful in many subjects......I have been lurking a lot today and you are the first person to give me succint and helpful guidance.

Except for their using "Zone3" instead of "Zone2", there really is no difference between the method you are using (as per the link you posted in the other thread) versus the link I posted. But it doesn't matter whether you do it with "Zone2" or "Zone3". As they note, they use "Zone3" in order to leave "Zone2" available for true multizone setup. They DO skip the level-matching step in the method you are using. The level matching step assures that your speakers still "sound the same" as they would if they were not passively bi-amped. However, as pointed out in the link to the method you were trying, you can also use the ability to adjust the Zone2/3 level to alter the ratio of highs to lows in your speakers.

I edited my post in your other thread and have probably posted some more info there since you last checked it.

I was getting nasty feedback when I had the surround pre-outs connected to the VDP input when I turned up the zone 2 vol above +2 db and the rec. was shutting down......not sure why but never good.

You don't connect the surround pre-outs to the VDP input! Of course you got feed back this way! :D
You connect the front R/L pre-outs to the VDP input. Then you assign the VDP input to Zone2/3. This feeds the front channel signal back into the receiver where it is amplified by the extra amps.
Capeche?

Exactly.......that was the bonehead mistake I was making last night.....I was so excited to have new speakers because I previously only had very crappy HTIB stuff from BestBuy.......I know I know....shame on me.
I am just starting out with the RTI12....I know they are not great but I got a pair of them for $800. I wanted def tech 7002 but those are out of my price range for now......

They are fine speakers.
But, since you say this is your initial foray into higher (than HTiB) end stuff, I don't really understand why you are so eager to passively bi-amp your speakers, especially since your receiver has no provisions for doing so and the method you are using is a bastardization.
What is driving your decision to bi-amp your speakers, so? Why don't you simply connect them conventionally and start enjoying them instead of getting bogged down in this BS method of bi-amping?
Just my $0.02. :)

To be honest my foray was caused by the review on audioholics of the Denon 3805.....it mentioned it there and thus spawned my obession with passive biamping. I tend to dive into new hobbies pretty full throttle....I finally got the green light for the towers because I mentioned they were on sale for nearly 50% off retail. I wanted to get a separate amp but I couldn't find anything for a separate amp that was less than $1500 that would drive two channels in the 500 wpc range which is what the speakers were rated to carry.
If I could find something decent in that range I am all ears.....
