So my brother got a broken Philips 55' Rear Projection TV (Model # 55pp9910)
from a guy who got it from another guy, and he says I can have it if I fix it. Seems it was made in late 2004 if I remember correctly.

The TV didn't turn on, so I opened the bad boy up and discovered that the middle tube was broken off of the thing it was connected to (I don't know what it is called, maybe the Lens?). Here are 2 pictures of it:

Model # for that part is p16lxl00hha (U) , if anyone cares.

So anyways, my brother got prices for it: said it was around $250, and I figured that wasn't too bad if it'd fix the TV.

So my question is, does this tube being broken (and the tube+lens being unplugged) prevent the TV from turning on? If so, then I would risk replacing it, but if not, I don't wanna have to figure out why it isn't powering on, on top of replacing a $250 tube + lens.

Also if it is fixable, do any of you know where I can buy a tube+lens? Really low results on google for that part number.

I would go to the place your brother got prices from...Other than that it is possible that when it broke it took out other electronics while shorted out. Myself, being the 3rd person who has had (and probably opened) the set, would not invest $250 in it when you can look on e bay for a used one in your area that works for not much more...but thats just me.

With the CRT bd unplugged from that tube and it's high voltage wire unhooked, the TV should function without that color fine. The yokes need to remain connected. Else, something else is wrong. Wow! That's some serious damage.
