Interesting ...

I wonder how much HD can be stored on a DVD? I'm guessing it's DL capable.

$1000 for a 500GB HDD-DVR with a DVD burner capable of recording HD... Looks good to me.

Now the big question ... will they sell it in the US?

It has a link to the following PC World article that has a little bit more information.

From genem's PCWorld link (for the short of time): "There are no immediate plans to sell them overseas [outside of Japan] but Panasonic said it is examining the possibility."

You guys should call up Panasonic for your particular country and mention the models and show official interest in getting it in your country.

At the (v-e-r-y s-l-o-w) rate at which Panasonic (and other manufacturers) decide to export new products outside of Asia, it will probably be five years or more before we see these babies in this part of the world!
BTW - Blu-ray recorders have been available in Japan since 2004!!

Awww some stuff does take forever to make it state side ... hope things like these HD BluRay players catch on, so maybe in a few years after we've adopted one format I'll get one.
