Watching last night's hockey games on Versus HD I saw two different DirecTV commercials. One said they will have 100 HD channels, the other 150. When did they add another 50?

I think it's room for 150 but there are only 100 slated to be added by February.

Almost correct. Room for 150, up to 100 by the end of the year.

i keep hearing "up to 100 national" and when i hear the "150 channels" i never hear "national" tacked on.

The "150" is always referring to nationals - but it is their capacity.

Whichever way you slice it, it's still more HD than I'm getting (now and foreseeable future) thru Comcast. Officially a D* customer as of Columbus Day!

Will miss OnDemand (but sounds like D* has their own system on the horizon), but will not miss the Moto DVR and ugly Comcast/Moto OS.

Anyone care to even come up with 150 national channels? Let alone HD.

With the announcement of RFD-HD, I no longer question the eventual number of national HD channels.

i haven't watched it except for a few minutes, so i may be wrong. but think of a reality version of "green acres" without the hungarian accent.

At least they aren't claiming 1500 HD channels right now.

Is RDF SD available on DirecTV? It sounds extremely lame, no offense to anyone in rural America. I myself am there :)

Yep - channel 379.

Very popular with horse lovers.

Again, 150 channels is the total capacity. If there were that many now, they'd already be screwed on space. By there are actually 150 national HD channels, they'll have either A) cleared stuff from the other birds that are showing MPEG2 content to make space or B) have launched yet another bird.

My guess, once the HD viewers get fully changed over to MPEG4, they'll start with the SD viewers, market by market who have the local SD channels and transition those people to MPEG4. Eventually they'll be able to move everyone over to MPEG4 equipment which will allow them to optimize space on the older birds to make room for more channels.
