Can anyone go into their linktheater interface to see if there is an option for changing the language? I am thinking about buying one in Japan (where I live) but I am not sure if I can switch it to english.

The other option is to buy one from the US and pay a very high shipping cost and have no warranty :(

I have a buffalo linkstation live that I bought in Japan, and I was able to switch it to English from its web interface.

Going to Buffalo's website and looking up the US manual for your product, I found the following paragraph:

"The Language and Theme options cannot be changed at this time. English is currently the only available language, and the LinkTheater theme is currently the only available theme."

Of course, I'm sure you looked there already. I would go to the Japanese site and read that manual, but given my crappy Japanese reading skills, that wouldn't do much.

Since you are in Nihon, perhaps you can find a local to read the manual for you?

There was an option on the unofficial site for a while which allowed English users to download the Japanese firmware since it had more advanced features. I flashed my US purchased LT to Japanese, and back to English, when the final US version came out.

So I can tell you definitively that this was doable on my machine, but you need the mechanism to put the replacement firmware in your machine.

The web interface works, if Brian V's site is still up can do it easily, if not it will be more work.

Are you referring to: http://www.verenkoff.com/ ?

Yes, embarrassingly enough I can never remember how to spell his name, even though by most measures mine is worse.

Egads, Brian left Buffalo and the site's going down. Well, I would scrape the site or at least download some of the firmware files and roll your own html, if you don't do it soon.
