I apologize if this is in the wrong section but im having some issues and i have been led to believe that my firmware might need to be updated. I have a Yamaha RX-V661 AV receiver and an older Sony DVP CX995V 400 disc DVD player hooked up via HDMI to a Sanyo Z5 PJ. When i watch HD DirecTV i have no issues, even after 20 hours straight but when i switch over to the DVD player i get signal loss after about 1 hour of viewing. Ths screen goes black for a brief 2-5 seconds and then comes back on. This will get progressively worse until it is unbearable and i turn it off. I really have no idea what is causing this and would greatly appreciate some guidance on this.

Thanks
Nate

It sounds like a handshake issue between the DVD player and PJ. If there's a firmware upgrade available for the DVD player you may be able to resolve the issue. Either that or use component - I doubt you'd notice too much of a difference with an older player.

Ok, good call with the component if i cant figure it out elsewhere. I have no idea on where to get or where to look for available firmware for the DVD player, any ideas? Also, what about the PS3 aspect of it though, it does the same thing?

If there's a customer service number in the info for the DVD player I'd give them a shout and see if there's an upgrade available. As far as HDMI issues with the PS3 I know Sony released a firmware upgrade for the it that may help. I'd give them a shout as well.

Very good advice, i went to Sony's site and wound up finding an update for the firmware, downloaded it, and just finished installing it onto the player. I havent had time to test it yet but i will this evening and hopefully it works lol.

Hey, I have problems with some discs playing and want to update the firmware. Here are the instructions from the Sony website;

WARNING!! Do not power off the player or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Doing so may damage the player to the point of requiring repair.

WARNING!! Do not press any buttons, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage the player to the point of requiring repair.

Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the DVD player is connected.
NOTE: Make sure the DVD player is in the OFF mode. Do not power on the DVD player.
While pressing and holding the "STOP" button on front panel of the DVD player, press the "1" button on the DVD remote control. (This procedure activates the process).
When the front display of the DVD player shows "No disc", press the "EJECT" button on the DVD player front panel to open the disc tray.
Place the update CD disc on the tray, and then press the "PLAY" button on DVD player front panel to start the update process.
The television displays the "STMicroelectronics System Update Utility" screen, and "DISC UPDATE" is displayed on the DVD player front display. Please be patient and allow the process to continue.
NOTE: The picture on the television may be distorted, this is normal.
When the update is finished, "FINISHED" is displayed on the DVD player front display and the television displays the message, "*** SUCCESS *** The target system has been updated. Please turn unit off and then on again."
NOTE: It may take several minutes for the firmware update to finish.
Disconnect the DVD player from the AC power outlet and then reconnect it to reset the player.
Press the "EJECT" button on the DVD player front panel and remove the update disc.
Disconnect the DVD player from the AC power outlet and wait at least one minute before reconnecting.
The firmware update process is now complete

I dont see where it says if I should load the CD with the update and if so, to what number in the jukebox? Should I remove the disc that is in slot #1 (assuming it defaults to slot #1 when I press 1 on the remote when I start the process?)
