The PQ is extremely good, can even the bugs swirling around Rivera's face right now.

What does 10/10 mean? I saw TBSHD on the guide by accident tonight, it obviously is already launched on E*.

EchoStar's Dish Network today added TBS HD to its high-def lineup on channel 139.

But EchoStar said tonight it can't comment on whether the channel has been added.

"We aren't making any announcements at this time (regarding TBS HD)," said EchoStar spokeswoman Francie Bauer.

Thank you E*!! I must say it's about time. I was having trouble watching the games on TBS-SD and knowing the guys with D* were getting it in HD. Charlie must have heard the moans, especially from the Rockies fans around him.

What does 10/10 mean? I saw TBSHD on the guide by accident tonight, it obviously is already launched on E*.

It means that on Oct 10th, TBS-HD will move to it's permanent place on channel 9499. The channel is temporarily being shown on channel 542. I thought it was pretty self explanatory. ;)

I don't think I can explain it any more obviously than this. What is it that you don't understand?

I was reading this post and asked why it said launch on 10/10 when it was obviously already launched.

Just another HD special event channel.

I had high hopes for the D* HD leadership in bringing out all the new HD channels, so far from what I can see and read these new ones are just SD streched and rushed out to claim their HD slots.

At least those earlier HD lauhches such as Discovery HD Theater, HDNet, even HGTV and FOOD HDs are serious HD providers. In fact some of the new HDs begin to make VOOM HDs more appealing.

It's all about numbers and channel filler. The playoff quality has been very good but that's all I can say that is good. The non-playoff programming sucks. If this is the future of HD, they can keep it.

Watched Riddick for like one minute and started laughing. Stretch looks horrible, audio sounds like it's in an echo chamber, and lip sync was over a second off.

Just another HD special event channel.

I also thought that, I was gonna say something similar.

I read the "AVS HDTV Programming Synopsis – Fall 2007!" thread and I noticed it has this.

"TBS HD - broadcasting 1080i
From Turner, their second national HD channel. The big news in initial HD is the MLB's Division Series Playoffs and the National League Championship Series. Also look for TBS original series My Boys and The Bill Engvall Show. Available now on DirecTV, Dish Network, select TWC, Comcast and Cablevision systems. Cox Communications and Bright House have also signed on for TBS HD, but it's not known when they go live with it.

I am guessing their orignal series, mentioned above, will be nice HD PQ.

I saw Riddick too. The PQ was better than Miss Congeniality.

Channel 9499 is not on my guide. I have channels 9500, then 9491.
Anybody else not seeing the channel switch?

I hate the fact this HD channel is seperated from the rest of the HD channels.

Why would they do that?

YoungC55
10-12-07, 10:26 PM
E*'s channel number for this channel is a joke.

What does channel 500s have to deal with 9000s?

Why is it not listed with the other HD channels? Is the channel only available to certian people?

500's are HD sport channels, only available for certian people.

Has anyone seen Everybody Loves Raymond on TBS HD?

It looks like they just stretched the standard 4:3 broadcast of the show to 16:9. Why would they do that? The proportions just look.....off.

It has been the policy of the Turner networks (minus CNN) to stretch all (it's not just Everybody Loves Raymond) SD content to 16x9.

Most of the new HD channels such as TBS and HIST are stretch-o-vision. That makes them less than worthless. If they were worthless it would be ok but in fact thay are nauseating.

On the good news front the last local channel to stretch here in Los Angeles stopped stretching in the last few days (KABC 7). They had previously done the 14x9 stretch on their SD. Now it is 4x3. Hurray.

Amen!
I'll take 4:3 in the highest res available over any distorted picture. Any film shot, even in that ratio, would look great in HD.
