View Full Version : Having receiver output audio through tv speakers...

I'm currently using Onkyo's SR600 htib with a Sharp sdtv that has only one composite output. I'm trying to use this one output for three devices (being my PS2, Xbox 360, and Directv box) through use of the inputs and outputs of the receiver. This has worked great; the only problem is that I would like the sound of my Directv box to output to the the tv speakers instead of the main speakers as it's currently doing.

Is this possible?

Connect the D* box to the TV using an RF coax cable and set your TV to channel 3 or 4... whatever the D* remodulates to.

Ah, thanks. That would indeed work.

Though wouldn't the picture quality diminish?

With "plain old TV", I wouldn't expect that much of a difference. With older equipment, you have to make choices/compromises to accomplish what's best for you.

I'm slightly confused, you're running video through the receiver, which is all well and good. But if you want the Directtv to send audio to the TV, why not just connect the audio output of that to your TV using the unused audio input that matches the video input in use on the TV? I assume the audio for the rest is connected to the receiver? That should work fine, you get audio for everything else via your HTiB, and when you use the directtv you get it through the TV. No need for RF, etc.

Why I hadn't thought of this is beyond me.

That worked. :)
