My Samsung vr357 (DVDR+VCR, no tuner) is connected to my Onkyo 674 by HDMI, and on to my Westinghouse LCD. The Sansmsung supports 720P and 1080I, but will not let me select either, it insists on 480P. Does anyone have this problem with this or another Samsung player?
Two things I can think of are that the super-cheap hdmi cable can't handle the bandwidth, but I wouldn't think the Samsung could tell that and limit my selection, so maybe the problem is that it isn't getting an HDCP handshake?
I think it supports receiver passthrough (as the manual says this is a valid way to set up), and I know the receiver is fine with HDCP b/c my moto 3412 cable box works. Could be that the cheap cable can't handle HDCP (have seen that before), but I'm wondering if anyone else can conform before I buy another cable.
