I don't understand this. My guide even says the Duck/pens game is on HdNet. I live in Oregon. There should be no blackouts or any reason for a black out here.
HdNet, what gives?

View Full Version : HdNet! No NHL tonight? Why? Hughmc 10-06-07, 07:55 PM I don't understand this. My guide even says the Duck/pens game is on HdNet. I live in Oregon. There should be no blackouts or any reason for a black out here. HdNet, what gives? skyehill 10-06-07, 08:07 PM Perhaps the players went on strike again.:) Berk32 10-06-07, 08:25 PM Game is on by me Hughmc 10-06-07, 08:34 PM Here is my theory. My local FIOS cable co taps into the same cable coop out of Kansas as say the Anaheim area. HdNet has a blackout feed and my cable co somehow gets the blackout feed as opposed to the correct one for my area. What else could it be? It is really pissing me off though since I am an avid HdNet NHL fan and talk HdNet up as if I was getting paid for it. scdiver 10-06-07, 08:40 PM :eek:Maybe I should not post this, but I have it on HDNet and on my RSN. If there are blackout rules, HDNet should probably be blacked out here:rolleyes:, but it is not. Thank you Mr. Cubin for making such a great channel! Thank you Mr. Cubin for making such a great channel! Sure add even more insult to injury. :D Why the hell does HdNet even have a second feed? I would rather see black on the channel if the programming I want to watch is subplanted by crap, even if it is crap I like, I don't want to see it when I am expecting to see NHL HD on HdNet. What will really be interesting is if they show the replay tonight and I actually get it. Then it means my live feed got cut because of blackout or some other bogus reason and yet they can show the replay. We'll see. scdiver 10-06-07, 09:26 PM I thought the HDNet game of the week was a national feed. I was not aware of any blackout rules on their games. I guess I did not know that there was a second feed for HDNet either. BTW, I have Directv. roachxp 10-06-07, 09:35 PM Hdnet actually has 3 feeds; OTA feed for Dallas area they get Mavs game in HD all season long, national feed untouched, and the blackout feed for both team markets. I watching the game from Boston so no blackout but I like the Mpeg4 HD feed of FSN Pittsburgh better then Hdnets mpeg2 feed, I think E* compress the channel too much. I mean the Oregon Ducks are more popular than the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Maybe they were thinking to black you out in Oregon for that reason :) HDeeJunkie 10-07-07, 02:14 AM maybe HDNet got confused. I guess I did not know that there was a second feed for HDNet either. The HDNet games are not the "game of the week." Those are the games on Versus, which for the most part are national games and not blacked out anywhere. SMK lokar 10-07-07, 06:00 PM I got the game fine on HDNet from D* in Idaho which is fairly close to you, there is no way the game should have been blacked out in Oregon, I would think it only should have been blacked out in Anaheim and Pittsburgh. Hughmc 10-07-07, 06:04 PM HDNet got back to me, very fast response time to my email and it was NOT a form letter. Very impressive. Here it is: Hi- HDNet NHL games are subject to local blackout, however, in Oregon you would not be subject to blackout for either team. We will contact the folks at Fios in your area to make sure the error is corrected. There could be a few different reasons that would cause this to to happen so, we can't really speculate as to what is going on until we speak with our contacts there to find out what the issue is. The game replays are not subject to blackout - even in the home team territory so you should indeed see the replay tonight. We apologize on their behalf and will make sure that we get this corrected before the next game. Thanks for the email and please feel free to contact us with any other comments or questions. I also noticed there were several times over the last 6 months + that HDNet on my cable co. would just show a black picture for an hour or two, no programming almost as if I was getting a blackout feed or some weird thing. This was only with HDNet. I know it is a bit anal, but for me so far nothing comes close to HD hockey like on HDNet, so when I got home and wanted to watch the game I was sorely disappointed, especially since I favor the Pens and dislike the Ducks immmensly. scdiver 10-07-07, 11:23 PM RoyGBiv, I completely understand that the NHL game of the week is on Versus, but I thought HDNet has 2 games per week televised nationally? kmeisenbach 10-07-07, 11:42 PM yes, HDNet does broadcast nationally two games per week, but they are subject to 'local' blackout rules. so, they aren't seen in the local teams market, those broadcast rights are typically owned by the regional sports network. |
