I am now the proud owner of the Optoma HD70. Boy does it look great.

For some reason though, when I'm in 1080i it fits perfectly on my screen, although I have to zoom out all the way. When I switch to 720p however it is too big and even zooming in or out won't make it fit. I am on the native setting, but 16:9 didn't appear to make a different either

I assume it has to do with the resolution or something, but is there a way to digitally drink the image or can I only use the mechanical lens shifter?

Also, why is this happening?

Appear's your screen is too close, move your pj back, what's your setup?
I set everything to 720, 1080i makes a small box inside the screen, unless i use 16:9 to fill it

1080i on native is converted to 540p and therefore uses fewer pixels so it looks smaller. Your peojector is just too far away for 720p.

Put your HD70 in 16x9 mode rather than NATIVE and then adjust the distance to the screen and your zoom to fit correctly.
As stated above, 1080i in NATIVE mode is shown in a smaller window in the middle of the 720p area.

Check the crop and overscan. There are different settings for each.

Changing one does NOT change all.

Each resoluton must be set independently, i.e. 480i is different then 720p and even 1080i.
