View Full Version : Limitation on HDMI length to PJ or bad cable?

Hi Everybody!

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Hopefully someone out there can help me out. I'm crossposting this in the PJ, HDMI and Onkyo sections.

I have the following setup:
HD70 connected to an ONKYO SR805 via 35FT 22 gauge HDMI cable.
The input is a Phillips 1080P upscaling DVD player connected to the reciever via 6ft 22guage HDMI.

Using this 35 ft cable, I cannot get audio or video. The HDMI light on the receiver flashes, and on the pj you see either "no signal" or it detects that it is connected to an HDMI device with a weird resolution: 1076xsomething
On the screen when it says it does have an input: snow or blue screen.

I have verified that all devices work together if I use a different HDMI cable. (unfortunately it is only 6ft, so won't work as a permanent solution)

I can't even get my projector to power up if the 35ft cable is connected---the lamp never turns on. I have to disconnect the cable first, and then turn on the pj.

Is this due to an issue with the length of the cable connecting to the hd70, or perhaps just a bad cable? Does the 805 play into this somehow? Is this common?

Thanks in advance!

Clemens.

Please don't cross post. Make one post and if you really really need post in another forum just make a brief statement and a link to original post. However, many people visit various forums and chances are you'll find somebody in the forum who is "multi talented" and can help. Cross posting usually ends in the problem getting solved in one forum and then people needlessly posting in the other forums. It makes finding answers very hard (or harder than normal :) ).

:o Sorry.

Just an update: Monoprice sent a new cable out, and this fixed the problem!

On a side note: Monoprice was great. They just had me call them with my UPS tracking number for the cable I was sending back to them, and then they shipped me the new cable. No need to wait for them to receive the new cable!
