Solar flares and sun outages are not the same thing..That's correct, and what we're likely dealing with is the fall sun outage. It simply means the sun is lined up right behind the satellite you (or your station) is trying to get. It happens for a few minutes during a period every spring and fall, and we are in that period. Broadcast networks often avoid losing service by having a backup feed on another satellite, but apparently this may not always extend to the HD side yet. If that's the case your station will probably switch you to SD for a time so that at least you'll have something to watch.

Of course if they NEVER switch you back to HD, that's another story, because the race is definitely in HD. I've got it on now.
