Hello....I have a Harmon Kardon AVR 55 receiver connected to Bose Acoustimass. I am wondering what the right settings on the receiver for this set up. Specifically for the following -
a. Subwoofer - Do I set it to NO or Yes?
b. Speakers - Do I set to Large or Small?
c. Do I plug in the bass unit separately into the receiver somewhere or just the satellite speaker wires? There is one extra wire that hangs out from the bass unit output that I cant figure out the purpose for.
Thanks!

What Bose acoustimass, it depends. Some have subwoofer inputs on the module, some only have speaker level inputs. For the latter, you would choose yes and run the sub out to the acoustimass system. For the latter you should choose no.
B) depends again on the above
c) again, depends on what you have.
d) unasked for advice: sell the Acoustimass system and buy something competent.

That's good advice.

This speaker placement guide is hilarious. http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/speaker-setup-guidelines/placement-suggestion-for-cubed-speakers

This is exactly how you should set everything up. Unplug the power cable to your receiver and leave it that way until you plan on hooking real speakers up to it. I would say set the speakers to the small and ****** setting and the subwoofer to the yes it's ****** setting but I don't think Harmon\Kardon built Bose settings into their receiver. Good Luck.
Thanks for the hilarious replies! I tried everything and the Bose cubes still sound crappy....and to think my receiver was earlier connected to Paradigm Studio 60s!
I give up - I am selling the Boses off.
Now for some real advice - I dont have space in the living room and I need small speakers that I can wall mount. What speakers would you recommend??
The real advice would be to set the speakers to large, no sub. They are designed to be full range speakers. The bass module is not a subwoofer.
Best advice is never to mention Bose around here. Sadly, you can't get decent advice if you do.

Getting rid of the Bose crap isnt decent advice? Wow! I thought the advice given was perfect.
I could foresee this coming when I read the thread title. Had to click in for a good laugh.
