I am sure everyone is fimiliar with the vertical offset issues that most SDI DVD players have, like the Panasonic RP91 etc., all scalers have this adjust to correct this
what I have here is a player that has a horizontal offset and have no such control to correct it on my DVDO scaler :(
I have a Sony 995 400 disc changer that has a amazing SDI output but it is shifted to the right a decent amount
has anyone ever encountered this and is it correctable via a scaler that has a horizontal image offset control for the SDI input
and the kicker, this is a BT656 unit, not BT601 :(
thanks for the help

But surely it must have!? It just must. Both my CI and CII have it. I've needed it for some SDI sources before. Currently my SDI Sky box is about 10pixels left. But previously I've had to go further.
It must have!
That's right, my Crystalio 1 had image shift as well.
What's really annoying on the ABT VP units is that horizontal picture shift is only available for overscanned pictures. It would be SO easy to enable horizontal shifting for all formats (with and without over oder underscan), I just can't understand why it hasn't been enabled for ages.
Gary, as a VP50pro beta tester, you should really drop ABT an email about it. If it's as easy to do as I think than maybe we're running a chance of getting it added to the "future features" list :)

DVDO added horizontal offset control to the VP30 on the SDI input, but I haven't heard anyone comment on it or how much control it has
I think it is a good bet that the 50pro will have it guys ;)
thanks guys, appreciate the feedback very much, that is great to here indeed, I can't believe in all the SDI mods I have done I have never encountered this issue :p

I got the same issue with my Lumagen HDP pro with a sony 995cx sdi modded changer. Anyone ever find a solution to this? The lumagen has input overscan/underscan controls on the input so I worked on the btm right corner reducing overscan like crazy by hitting left trying to reduce overscan, I was able to reduce it some but reach a point that no matter how much underscan I apply to the picture its still truncated on the far right side. Missing about 1/3rd to 1/4th of the right side of the sdi image.
What causes these shifts with SDI? In my limited experience with SDI mods (I've installed the PMS kit into a Denon 1600 and 2900), neither player had any centering issues or required a shift control on the VP.

The first question is: Are all the pixels there? Meaning is the blanking too wide or is the raster shifted and pixels cut off?
If the raster left shifted in a BT601 mod, then the Hsync to the TRS embedder needs to be delayed. If it's right shifted, the Hsync is too late. As we can't advance time per Mr. Einstein, we have to pick an earlier H sync from some other point in the DVD player. Or delay the incomming BT601 video to set the TRS right. This is doable in the TRS adder FPGA.
If it's a BT656 mod, then I can't see how this would happen as the TRS is being inserted wrong inside the MPEG decoder.
If the blanking is too wide, then the scaler must compensate in it's sizing and position controls.

I have modded so many players it isn't funny and the Sony 995 is the only one I have ever encountered that had a offset image with 656
I think in this situation a PMS 601 board might need to be used but set to 656 mode, you can still use the offset controls on the board
