I wired my HT with some of the Cheap-O Phillips Speaker wire that you can get at Home Depot and now that I am getting ready to hook things up i have noticed that there is no markings on the cables as to which is positive and negative. I see no markings of any kind on either leads of the cable so am trying to think of a quick way to make things match +/- between my speakers and my reciever. Any ideas?

Normally the insulation over one of the conductors will either be ribbed, splined, or hex-shaped to mark that conductor. Sometimes there will be a colored thread or silver-colored wire on one of the conductors. I have never seen 2-conductors wire that was not marked for polarity.

hmm.. maybe a voltage meter and some batteries.. Probably easier ways than that.. But if you can get a voltage across the wire, just mark the one you found and use that for either + or -.. Make sure you mark it good so you know in the future.

Thanks guys..i actually located some micro-font markings on one of the conducter's. I'm in business...i guess this is what you get from buying bulk cheep speaker wire but whatever works.

Since wire size is important note the following:
Gauge------ Maximum Length in feet
18------ 7.7
16------ 12.5
14------ 19.2
12------ 31.3
This will keep resistance under 0.1 ohms.
