Ok, I am not sure what part of the forum to put this in, but I need some advice. I am in no way an audio expert but would like to further inhance my theaters potential for better sound. I am still in the building fase. Anyhow I have a big bonus room 17'x26' that is being turned in to a dedicated theater room. The wall with the window is getting covered up. I wanted to step out about 12" and build frame work for a fixed screen that will attach to this. Then 12" in front of that build more frame work for a wall. This would be the part that would be seen with stage and all. It would in close the screens frame work and have a small space on each side for the curtains to draw back into. My question is this: the frame work that the screen would be attached to would you insulate that for better sound with the pink stuff, and the wall in front of this would it be insulated as well? To finish the Theater stage and wall, Would you use wood and cover it in mud to sand down smooth and then paint black , or would you just use dry wall. Hopefully You will understand what I am trying to explain. Just trying to do it right the first time. thanks comments are needed, John:)

is it clear what I am asking? If this should be posted somewhere else, let me know.
I'm really not sure of the answer, but some people here might be able to give you help. There is also a forum a few down from this one for dedicated theatre construction--that might be another place to check.
Drywall is stiffer than plywood from a wave transmission point of view (although has less strength). You absolutely want to insulate all cavities with fiberglass or similar -- both to prevent transmission, and to avoid resonance that will color the sound. (Make sure you budget for bass traps and treatment panels, too!)
If you want to play loud in the room, but not hear too much in other parts of the house, you're in for a lot of work, though. You need very tight doors, HVAC ducts that are padded on the inside and have enough bends, insulation in the floor and ceiling as well as walls, possibly double walls, possibly hanging a false floor on an extra set of joists, possibly doubling the drywall with Green Glue in between the layers, ....

hey thanks for the info on the woood vs drywall. It will take some time, and I know it is a lot of work. green glue will be my friend for the project and so will lots of insulation. looks like a lot of doubleing up on dry wall for me...
