View Full Version : Does the 360 truly output 1080p via VGA?
GalvatronType_R 10-10-07, 09:25 AM As most are aware, when using the 360's VGA cable, the video output choices go to computer resolutions instead of video resolutions (1024x768, 1280x720, 1360x768, etc.).
For the topmost resolution choice, it is only expressed as 1920x1080. As only I know because I am a genius, 1920x1080 can be either 1080i or 1080p. So I ask, since I probed my cavernous cranial area about this for an entire month, how do we really know that the 1920x1080 that the 360 is outputting is i or p?
NoThru22 10-10-07, 09:58 AM It does not denote i or p because most displays/monitors won't accept interlaced signals over VGA, so they just assume you know it's progressive.

technically, 1080i = 960x1080 so yes, to answer your question.

a VESA / VGA signal is always progressive (except many many years ago).

Technically 1080i = 1920x1080 so I don't know where you got that info from. Were you thinking of the fact that it only shows the horizontal resolution every other frame? Then it would be 1920x540.
VGA is always progressive, hence it doesn't indicate 1920x1080 i or p

Right, technically 1080i is 1920x540 (even) every 1/30th sec and 1920x540 (odd) every 1/30th sec.

yes, that's what i meant. i know it's not exact, but it's an easy way to explain it, (ie. it's not progressive).
thanks for the clarification.

So does mine, but I have not tried to think about it being either Interlaced or Progressive. I have done my best to enjoy my entertainment experience; I think it looks great overall.
If by chance it is interlaced, then what do we do?
Placebo affect...
Ergoguy34 10-11-07, 12:10 PM Ok let let me pose this question, would I see an improvement with a Toshiba A30 over my xbox A/O on my sammy 6188 which is using the xbox vga?
chrisherbert 10-11-07, 02:29 PM Right, technically 1080i is 1920x540 (even) every 1/30th sec and 1920x540 (odd) every 1/30th sec.
Actually every 60th of a second.

It isn't interlaced.
It isn't interlaced.
Case closed
