Been getting Blu-rays from Netflix from the first week they were available. Never had a problem.

it seems the problems are due to the local post office mistreating the packages. most of the ppl who report problems have a very high occurance while the ones who don't have had no problems at all. i'm of the latter.

I've had three disks with very faint cracks around the edges that refused to play.

I received one cracked copy (completely snapped) of Galapagos from Blockbuster, and a copy of Blue Planet that looked okay, but wouldn't play at all on my PS3, both in the past week. Before that I've watched dozens of movies without any problems, although I'm constantly surprised how scratched the discs arrive (people sophisticated enough to upgrade to high def player, but use their HD rentals as coasters on their sidewalk?)

Do any of the discs also have grass stains? The other day I was at the park with my kids and there were all these guys waering "HD DVD or Die" T-shirts playing frisbee with what looked like Blu-ray discs.

Kidding aside, I haven't had any such problems with BD discs that I have been renting from Netflix on the 4 at time plan since early July.

After 9 months of renting Blu-ray discs from Netflix I have never seen the type of cracks in the link. I did get one with a bad scratch that would not play most of one chapter, but otherwise they have been fine. I have received some cracked DVDs from NetFlix over the years, but it is rare and they were really cracked (usually from the hole to the edge) like something heavy was dropped on them during shipping.

Never seen cracks and so far no unplayable disks.

Are you all getting scratched Blu-ray discs (not SD DVD or HD DVD)? I've heard of the cracked disc problem and figured it might just be a weakness of the hard-coat (more brittle maybe)... but would of figured scratches were near non-existant. (I haven't tried renting any BDs yet.... only purchased.)

I've never had a broken or scratched BD either. Now SD-DVD's it happens a lot... just got a cracked one yesterday. It must be the lack of a hardcoat that makes those brittle. :)

Only one problem so far and the disc was not cracked.....skipped in the middle in one spot....did not look like any scratches....figured it was a production problem. Every other BD from Netflix has been fine.

No problem and I have been renting 3 at a time for the last few months. Most are in pristine condition and I would not be surprised if I'm one of the few who has ever requested them!

Boil any discs lately? ;)

All kidding aside, what does your post have to do with a few people receiving cracked discs from Netflix?

I have had two cracked discs since I started getting blu-ray discs from Netflix in February. Both had some stuttering in a few places, but they did play on my ps3.

Old news: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=917809

Anyone curious as to the topic would probably be well served by reading through that thread. It's clearly an issue with Netflix themselves, and even then only in certain instances/regions.

Two out of my 16 Netflix BD rentals have been cracked. Both cracked discs were older releases that had seen some circulation. About half of my 16 BD rentals were new releases hot off the presses. Both cracked discs were nearly identical in damage--small (about 1/8") crack at the outer edge going in toward the center.

Have yet to see a cracked or scratched blu-ray from Netflix. Got one recently with some weird "goo" on part of it that caused a little skipping, but worked fine once it was washed off.

I had a bad copy of Goodfellas, but there was nothing visibly wrong. They sent the replacement from Denver!! (I'm in Boston)

We did get a cracked DVD 2 months ago.

Other than that , no issues.

I've only gotten 1 cracked BD (Haunted Mansion) from Netflix and they sent a replacement within two days. However, I've only been receiving BDs for about a month.

I have had 2 cracked Blu Ray and 2-3 very scratched HD DVD's from Netflix. In fact the last 4-5 movies I got from them skipped at some point or didn't work at all. I think they need to improve on the cases they should use the new cardboard type sleeves that lala uses. And I would say that the USPS is somewhat at fault some of mine end up looking like they were dragged to my house.

I just got my first 3 Blu Ray discs from Netflix on Tuesday and 2 of the 3 had some damage. Stranger Than Fiction played perfectly aside from a refusal to play 5 seconds or so at the beginning of one scene, while MI:3 played the previews and then would not even give me a main menu, let alone play the actual film. STF had a large scratch on it; MI:3 had a small crack along the edge virtually identical to the picture shown in the link from the first post.

Blu-ray discs have a "scratch resistent" coating, but it is not "scratch proof". Never underestimate renters ability to scratch a disc. The one that would not play a chapter looked like it was made with needle or pin. It was a deep scratch but fortunately not too long.

Overall I think the coating works pretty well. The BDs seem to have much less small scratches than DVD or HD DVD and usually look pretty clean except for finger smudges. They should use it on all rental disks.
