Please help!

I just receive Halloween from Amazon yesterday, popped it in my player (Philips BDP9000), and the playback was very problematic...a lot of quick pausing. I tried cleaning the disc a few times, but no luck. The disc is brand new and didn't appear to have any scratches or blemishes.

My player does have the latest firmware. I do notice that I get pauses with some SD DVD's. Is it recommended to avoid playing SD DVD's in the Blu-ray player?

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Could it be my player? It plays all my other titles just fine. I would like to know before I return it to Amazon.

PS: This movie is one of the main reasons I went Blu-ray, what a bummer!

If it's pausing on DVD's and Halloween, it sounds like your player's jacked. BD players are fine playing DVD's. I have Halloween and it plays flawlessly.

Probably time for a new player.

Try unplugging it for 30 seconds and then try it again. Sometimes these things just need to be reset.

Well, I tried a few more blu-ray titles, and they all ran flawlessly. I just hate that it was this title. Why coulldn't it have been something crappy like Aeon Flux (hope I didn't offend anyone ;)) I was wondering if it might be the same type of problem that's going on with Fantastic Four: ROTSS. Has anyone else encountered playback problems in the past with any titles that are brand new?

Amazon already shipped a new one free of charge...talk about fast. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I've also ready that my player can be turned into a Samsung with their firmware. If all else fails, I might try that.

Funny you posted this thread..I am watching the movie right now and noticed tons of skiping and stutering-disc is clean and other BR's play fine, so I dunno at this point:confused:

Same here...I was hoping it wasn't just me. What type of player do you have? Anyone else experiencing problems? The intro and main menu play just fine, but once I start the movie, the jittering starts around time he breaks out of the asylum in the rain.

Halloween plays perfectly on my Panasonic 10a as do DVDs. I haven't had one movie stutter, skip, pause or anything. I am real impressed with the Panasonic.

Sounds like you need a firmware update. Not sure about the Phillips, but Samsung is rumored to be releasing an update for the BDP1000 on Friday (which the Phillips is based on).

I have taken a disc to a retailer in the past who carries my player to see if there is an issue there. Now that isn't foolproof per se but you did say you have the latest firmware. May be worth a try if there is a store close to you that has that player on display.

Well...looks like the Samsung crossover firmware pretty much fixed my problem. Everything runs flawlessly now and I have a Samsung instead of a Philips...weird. I like the Sammy menu better than the Philips too.:)

Halloween has played fine on both the Panasonic BD10 and Pioneer 94HD.

Just updated my Philips to the new Samsung BD-P1000 firmware that was released on Friday...everythings running great so far. Should receive Halloween this week...takes a little long to get to these military locations. I'm in Japan. Has anyone else tried out the new firmware yet?

I was able to play the film last night without a problem.
But i just tried to play the Extra Feature documentary and ran into trouble. It doesn't play at first- I had to hit PLAY several times- I got it to play- but the image was skippy and played like it was in fast forward- sound was fine. I tried it 3 times. Same problem each time.
Anyone else having problem with the extras?
I'm using a Samsung BD-P1200.

leem6453, You right "PS: This movie is one of the main reasons I went Blu-ray, what a bummer!" You have issues if this is one of the main reasons why you went to Blu-Ray. Here is a good review on the Blu-Ray version.

There are so many better looking and sounding movies on Blu-Ray that include POTC's, Spiderman Trilogy, Stealth(Sounds awesome), Casino Royale, and MI:III are just a few. I own Halloween because it is one of my favorite horror classics, but not because it is one of the best looking or sounding. I am glad you got it to work.

That review has already been established as being absolute crap. He knocked the movie down way too far simply because of the color timing. Everything else about the disc is great. It looks absolutely better than ever. Personally, I like the color timing in this version better than the "Cundey approved" version. That review is nothing but personal opinion and bias.

Halloween looks great for what it is--a late 70s horror classic. I am very happy with the audio and video quality of this BD release.

Yea...I think that review is complete s$#t too. You just have to judge for yourself. Compared to all the other released versions...and believe me, I have most of them...this was Christmas, or Halloween, come early as far as I'm concerned. And I also like this transfer better than the Cundey transfer. I just wish they would release the other ones on blu-ray too, especially the new one.
