The Phen0m 10-11-07, 12:40 AM Ok, well basically im not a huge console gamer outside of sports(more of a pc guy), but i just picked up the nba 2k8 and also madden 08 for xbox 360, and both look horrible on my HD sets.. very clay or cartoon-like and its killin me.. i actually have the console hooked into an old CRT that just makes the games move and look(although fuzzily) more REALISTIC, but not better overall than the LCD's.
My question is if i buy a plasma will these issues be eradicted? Right now i have 3 LCD's: 32" Vizio that i use for a PC monitor, 37" Olevia thats in my living room, and a 24" westinghouse that i use for my bedroom TV.. I've tried the console on all of these and the same result.. clayish figures.
Im using the xbox elite w/hdmi, but i've tried S-video cables, component, & vga to no avail.. As i said i have the game on a CRT for now, but its wasting the $ spent on the elite, so i was considering a Plasma, but will i continue to have these issues w/the plasmas as well? I would possible get a HD CRT, but they're usually almost expensive as a Plasma/LCD, so i would feel like im overpaying for older technology..let me know guys, thnx!
briankmonkey 10-11-07, 12:48 AM I prefer Plasma's to LCD's especially budget LCD's, IMO they put out a more natural looking image. For example I think the Vizio Plasma's look much better than their LCD's. They all have their pro's and con's. Plasma's for example sometime have image retention issues.

That right there is the problem. Sorry to say, but you are scraping the bottom of the image quality barrel with those brands. If you are going to buying new TVs, spend more on each individual one, even if it takews longer.
Plasma? I love mine. 360 looks great on my Samsung based panel.
bkchurch 10-11-07, 12:54 AM The graphics are what they are, buying a different TV is not going to fix that. It probably looks less "clayish" on your SDTV because everything is so low-res and fuzzy. Btw HD CRTs aren't nearly as much as Plasma's, in fact they're the cheapest technology going in the TV world. Problem is finding one.

You can get budget 42" Plasmas for $799, heck a nice samsung for $999 at the right store on sale. Fry's even had a 1008p 42" Panasonic for $1399 yesterday.

I see what your saying which is why i was considering a new set, im not really a TV watcher/console gamer so i just bought budget screens to get my old crts out of the way and update the look of my home, but if these are effecting the way the games are displayed ill happily purchase something better
This sounds much more like a setup problem. What resolution do you have the 360 set to?
The Phen0m 10-11-07, 06:25 AM i tried them all, the game runs best to me at 480

Well, that's a problem right there. You can't expect an HD-gaming experience if you're not having the console output in HD. Try your display's native resolution, and if image quality isn't good enough for you then I would look at adjusting the display before I started adjusting the console resolution.
The Phen0m 10-11-07, 08:50 AM Hmm.. Ill give it a shot, but i don't think any of the screens res's are adjustable outside of rgb input channel.
This is simple enough. We have a huge thread of people taking picture of their sets. You should know what the picture can look like.
bryansj 10-11-07, 09:19 AM For a test just use an HDMI cable and set the resolution to 720p/widescreen in the dashboard video settings and hook it up to your 37". If you don't have HDMI then use component output and make sure that you flip the physical switch on the plug itself to HDTV. There should have been a sticker on the plug pointing out the HD switch.
Sounds like a setup issue or you have very high standards.
The Phen0m 10-11-07, 12:04 PM ^^ lol, i dont have high standards, ill have to make a short video when i get home to show you guys what im talking about :)
As bryansj said, are you sure you flipped the "HD" switch on the plug end of the cables? Aside from that, I'm not really even clear on what the problem is...if the graphics look cartoony, it's probably because they're, well, video games.

The Phen0m 10-16-07, 06:16 PM forgot to update.. apparently certain games look bad over widescreen on my tv's.. 2k8/madden.. essentially every sports game i own.. changed to 4:3 and the res matches my SD tv(480p).. the only problem is i cant switch the screen format when using the HD cable selector(composite), or the HDMI cord..defaults to widescreen and grays out.. bleh.. donno what 2 do
