Did your friend mention any rough size estimations for this box?
Originally a 4k JVC projector was rumored to use UHP instead of xenon. In your opinion , what would be the best choice for a projector like this.
A 700+W xenon
B 2x(200-250w UHP) Prosumer 3DLP units use this approach. This must be possible with any projection technology.
Art Sonneborn 10-11-07, 12:04 PM Thanks Wolfgang ! Will this have onboard scaling from HD to 4K ?

Mattias
I was wondering the same thing. That lens looks like a Minolta lens that is also used in 3 chip DLP so its a good size projector but not to big. Im guessing about the size of the DP Titan.
W.Mayer 10-11-07, 01:06 PM mattias
the resolution is 4096x2400 and thats almost 10mil. pixels:).
the size is 660x827x340 mm.
it was told that they use a xenon lamp and i hope it is right
because xenon is still the best light soure till we will have
some day laser;).
art
yes i am very sure that it will scale 2k to 4k.
it will be a bad surprise if they not do it.

A little larger than my SIM at 25" W x 32" L x 13" H. The extra res should be very very useful. I certainly like the on/off but I wonder about that cool ANSI pop of DLP in comparison. When you get your hands on it I certainly look foward to your thoughts.

Art Sonneborn 10-11-07, 03:37 PM Oh yea ,I forgot to ask...............
What about the MSRP ?
Art
W.Mayer 10-11-07, 04:23 PM good question
where is my crystalball:D
ok that is "almost" safe jvc sad it will be not as
expensive as the sony 4k.
it has to be less than the sony because the sony have
5000 or 10000 lumens but only at about 2000:1 cr.
the jvc will have more than 10000:1 cr.
both 4k pr. will have not the ansi cr. that dlp can offer.
in the best case they will have arround 400:1 but i think more
about 300:1.
my guess is lower than $50000
hope to get one demo unit in early 08.
btw my crystalball tells me that sony will have also a new 4k pr. in 08.
may a big and a small one:)
Sore Eyes 10-12-07, 11:53 PM Art,
speaking of your Sim, when do we hear more????
Digital2004 10-13-07, 05:44 PM i still would go with a C3X 2K imho
at that price the competition is fierce and 2K is already fabulous, structure free
(unless an idiot watches at 1.5meter from the screen)
now 3500w if at 7000K let's say would be really great !!! (almost 3x the dim HT5000)
for people in dubai with giant $500K home cinemas :D it will have its place
2K 3DLP 600:1 ansi 2500real lumens TI new chip DC4 15000:1 is the machine to beat imho
Digital2004
Lets wait until the C3X 1080p has measured to the level you mention. This JVC technology I am sure is not mainly for HT. I expect it will be sold into the simulation and visualization markets.

What can I say... well I can say a lot !:o:D
Last night I had the end of season party for my son and his football team . We had about eighteen people over. Since they ranged in age from ten to almost thirteen I wasn't sure of the movie to watch. I thought I was going to be able to get transformers a few days ahead but that fell through.
I had a few parents who actually asked me aheads about the movie before they would allow their children to come. I decided on MI III. Oh my God !!!!!!!!I had not realized what ANSI contrast does ( or at least fully appreciated) until last night. I sat there on the floor about eight feet from the screen just awestruck at how incredible things looked. I had said a long time ago how great this transfer was but this was the first time I'd seen it on the 5000.Angela just said she thought she would never say what she was about to say since she had gone along with my change but wasn't coinfident that it was the right move but "this blows away your stack". The sharpness, color ,punch ( light output and ANSI) all add up to just an incredible image.
I've had a lot less time to enjoy my new system than I'd like due all of the activities my kids are in right now but not doubt the SIM,scope screen,ISCO lens and Cineslide are all performing above expectation and have left me not looking back for a second.

Art, I just haven't been able to stay up with you. Last time I tapped into one of your threads, you were auditioning that monster from Sim2/TI. I assume by your earlier comment that the saga ended with you riding off into the sunset with the Sim2 HT5000. yez?.....No?:D
W.Mayer 10-14-07, 04:40 PM that is the jvc 4k camera from the back.
strange
seamst they have 9 dvi outputs!!!
hope i can get one front view as well.

W.Mayer 10-14-07, 05:22 PM good catch alan!
so no need to ask the editor again for the other pictures
he have.
i send him what you found.
may he have some good others.
this camera is to big for me.
i wait for a version that i can put in my trouser pocket
but i guess that will take "some years":)

Alan Gouger 10-14-07, 05:37 PM That lens is almost as big as the camera. $$$$$$

ArtIt's unreal what DLP can do, I would never thought that either untill I saw couple of movies with them at my friend place with 2K materials streamed from Dolby server. Just imagine with ANSI >1000:1, not far from now!

The whole set up is just an incredible performer ! Wolfgang here helped with some sage advice regarding it as I went, thanks W.Mayer !!
Also thanks Alan Gouger and Jason Turk for bringing the parts together in a timely manner. My meet at the end of September was my best ever.

thank you art for the nice words!
i am happy that you now after wait so long to replace your g90 stack
found the right pr. for you.
remember very long time ago (4 years or more ?)when i change from my g90 stack to the
dpi 1280x1024 3 chip dlp we talk a lot about advantages and
disadvantages.
i think that time you will be not happy to change because the good
1000:1 cr. is not the best beside the half resol.that this pr. have compare
to your new sim 5000.
you make the g90 replacement at the right time with the right unit
for you.
enjoy it!
W.Mayer 10-15-07, 06:48 PM here are 2 additional pictures.
cant turn one picture sorry
as i can see it seams to feed the 4k content to the pr.
with only 2 dual link dvi.
well better than 4 :)

donaldk 10-15-07, 08:17 PM Nero AVC, uses the Ateme codecs, Ateme put out a press-release (well-carried I must say) several months ago at the time NHK was showing its news 8K camera in Japan, that it was going to be part of the 8K programme, developing MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 codecs for said resolution.
Wolfgang, did you ever see the 'simulated' 8K projection demo NHK put on, with JVC providing a custom RBGG projector using older 4K D-ILA chips?
Remarkably, no standard HD-SDI (3Gig) outputs, but DVI outputs on this unit.
I probably missed this, but why did you choose the regular version of the HD projector over the C version with the yellow notch filter to extend the colorspace?
As for camera's you can carry in your pocket, try these German ones for size, Fraunhofer said they would show them in a stereo setup at IBC, but when I stopped by it was just regular video.

Stereo Camera System with MicroHDTV Cameras
A 2 x 2 x 4 inches size and full HDTV inside makes the camera suitable forstereo, 3D, panoramic or multiview applications. The small MicroHDTV cameras allow the positioning of the sensors very close to each other. An integrated GENLOCK enables the synchronous operating of two or more cameras. The data of both cameras will be stored on the Fraunhofer IIS field recoder Megacine. The MicroHDTV camera is used and distributed by WIGE Media and Broadcast Sports, and Easylook-Systems.
These are used for SD/HD simulcast from aboard DTM cars using the wireless camera link by Link Research.
W.Mayer 10-16-07, 11:32 AM yes i know this camera donaldk
i saw it (a single one) at a show in munich 3 months ago and
the company "DVC Digitalvideo Computing GmbH"told me that they plan a
3d version of it.
the owner of dvc visit me already.
i dont know what is the stage of this project.
do you know it?
lets see if this camera have a much better picture than a small
consumer full hd camera.
i think i will know it soon.
no the best or highest resolution i saw so far was several times the sony
4k pr. with true 4k source material but i read about the 8k set up
from NHK.
did you saw the 8k and if yes how it looks?
the editor that send me the 2 picturs at my start post here
saw the 8k in japan when i remember it right.
donaldk 10-19-07, 10:44 PM Did see the demo at IBC last year. Only green was using 2 4K channels/chips to get the full 32Mpixel resolution, using 0.25 pixel off-set if I remebr correctly. There still were some issues like depth of field, and contrast/resolution issues, that made it hard to distinquish between several layers of foliage in the various forrest pans. There was resolution present, but to properly distinguish between the layers of leaves one would have to refocus ones eyes. Lacking ANSI Contrast the DLP guys here will probably say.
Some of the material, especially the material shot in Japan, not NYC, like the sunflowers, the crabs on the beach, and the bees looked very good though.
The live camera had some slight chromatic abberations.
