View Full Version : Another Small Studio Goes Blu: Deimos Entertainment
AaronSCH 10-11-07, 10:33 PM Deimos Entertainment has revealed that they will bring a Paul Naschy double feature of 'Night of the Werewolf' and 'Vengeance of the Zombies' exclusively to Blu-ray on January 8th. No specs have been released at this time, but this will be the first Blu-ray release from Deimos (who specializes in offbeat horror, sci-fi, and cult films).
I find it interesting that these small studios are choosing Blu-ray even though reportedly, it is cheaper to produce HD DVD discs. The next announcement I would love to hear is The Criterion Collection and Elite Entertainment going Blu.

AaronSCH 10-12-07, 12:40 AM I got the info from Blu-ray.com and the Fangoria website only mentions Blu-ray. Although it is possible it is coming to HD DVD as well or they did an about face....I am sure more details are coming.

Excellent news. The more horror titles released the better!
HDD is reporting this as well and looks like it will only be on blu-ray. It will be a double feature on a BD-50.

Mr. Cinema 10-12-07, 09:25 AM the war is over.

it ended already when Godzilla was announced. ;)
I think CES 2008 is going to be very interesting. I expect Warner will choose a side at CES. After Paramount, I wouldn't even want to guess which side they will choose.

hopefully my company will send me to CES in 2008.

Agreed although I'll only be renting this one.
Damnationdoormat 10-12-07, 12:50 PM I'll definitely be grabbing these since I've had various bootlegs of these two over the years.
Before Deimos released Vengeance of the Zombies through BCI on DVD recently, BCI (as Brentwood) released it on a cheapie $1 DVD that was ripped without authorization from Midnight Video's VHS. It went out of print quickly and was a sought after collector's item for a while.
Many of BCI's early "bootleg-esqe" DVDs are sought after, especially their Mexican Horror output, since many of these films might never see "real" DVDs in the U.S.
Hopefully the Deimos released, HD restored Night of the Sorcerer and Exorcism make it to Blu-ray as well.

...I think CES 2030 is going to be very intresting. I expect 3d Holographic direct optic nerve connection to be the sole way of viewing media.....
I swear this forum has more Nostrodoofus predicting something than the Nostradamus himself!

Feel better? I hope so.

Feel??
no feelings here, this is a bot with an uncanny AI set to respond based on logic.
The Naschy films are an acquired taste. I'll probably pick it up.
Smart move to release it after Halloween.

Deimos is owned by BCI and they will release these films on both formats. I believe they were originally scheduled for HD DVD in 2006 but were postponed along with Galaxina, Golgo 13 and That's the Way of the World. BCI stated a few months ago that they would finally start releasing on both formats.

I doubt Warner will choose a side until sales are so lop-sided that it makes no sense to support both. The numbers are so small at this point that Warner might as well continue its current path of neutrality. The film 300 sold twice as many copies for Warner on Blu-ray so I doubt they would abandon the format now. It would be a dumb move and they already rejected an overture from Toshiba. Plus, New Line has made obvious moves to protect overseas distributors by releasing new theatrical output on Blu-ray first. If Blu-ray sales start to move to a 3:1 position, I think the war will end through attrition. Similar to Beta's demise. But nobody really knows for sure. I think Q4 numbers will be touted loudly by whichever side is the victor. I personally think Warner has shifted its attitude towards the formats recently and I am convinced they are firm Blu-ray believers now. I think CES will be a hum-dinger this year for sure.
