View Full Version : Looking for my first HDTV
I'm looking for an HDTV for my bedroom. I don't have a big bedroom so I don't want anything huge, I was shooting for a 26'' to 32'' TV (since it will probably follow me to Dorm next summer smaller would probably be better.)
I've been looking around and have thought about getting a 26'' Samsung LN-T2642H or if I wanted to stretch my budget a bit the Sharp LC-32GP1U.
The HDTV will only be used for my 360 for gaming needs, maybe one day down the line I'll use it for HD-DVD/Blu-Ray but for now it will just be playing up-scaled DVDs and downloaded HD Movies off of XBL MP. For that reason I was considering dropping the 1080p but I'm not sure.
Whats important to me in an HDTV: Colors, blacks, response time (prefer as little ghosting as possible and if its possible zero input lag), and I'd like as many inputs as possible, preferably 3 HDMI ports but I can work with two. I'd also prefer the TV to be available at Best Buy as its very close to me, I have built up credit with them, and I just overall prefer to buy big electronics from them.
Now does anyone have any suggestions on a good TV to get as my starter? As I said it will mostly be used for 360 gaming. Should I go for the 26'' Samsung? 32'' Sharp? Any other TVs worth mentioning?
Any help is greatly appreciated! :D
mastacow53 10-11-07, 10:10 PM Panasonic TC-32LX700
This is the best LCD HDTV I've seen. It was just too small for my needs.
It only has 2 HDMI inputs, but I don't know if any 32" has more than 2.
I'll look into that one, any other suggestions? Or possibly praise for the Panasonic?
EscapeVelocity 10-12-07, 12:24 AM Ive heard good things about the Panny's. JVC gets nods for gaming, as well.
lazyman6 10-12-07, 01:04 AM Samsung LNT3253H 32 inch LCD HDTV is quite good , and it is priced at about $849 .
Choices so far:
Panasonic TC-32LX700, Samsung LNT3253H, Sharp LC-32GP1U, or Samsung LN-T2642H
I'm thinking the Panasonic would be the best of those choices, can anyone help me out here?
cawgijoe 10-12-07, 11:11 AM You may want to add Sony to the list also.....they make a great looking 32" set too.
zenkimods 10-12-07, 12:17 PM Im in the same boat as the OP. I was actually looking at the Samsung LNT3242H. The price tag is great and it has a gaming mode that helps to minimize ghosting. I have a friend with the LNT3252H but havent had a chance to try out my 360 w/hdmi on it yet. The only thing about this set is that its way cheaper online, than going to a local B&M to pick it up :(
I want to get a set this weekend, so I'll be checking out the above recommendations too! :D
rodh32340 10-12-07, 12:22 PM I have the 3242H Samsung and I can't imagine a better picture (maybe bigger but better? no way!)
zenkimods 10-12-07, 12:27 PM I'd really love to get one, but local prices are really high. I might end up ordering online and trying to be patient. I really hate waiting for shipments.
Here's (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-and-plasma/samsung-ln-t3253h/4505-6482_7-32306314.html?tag=txt) a c-net review of the Samsung 3253H. If you use HDMI, make sure the user upgradable firmware is version 1020. Check this (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=828105) thread for more info.
These (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11287410&postcount=1500) calibration settings provide superior picture quality compared to the factory settings on other brands.
Sharp - 1080p
Samsung - Nice display case? Brand loyalty? Uh?
Panasonic - 120Hz
The Samsung and Panasonic are the same price and with the exception of the 120Hz difference seem to be pretty much identical in terms of quality, one may be a bit better then the other though. Then the Sharp is $200 more for 1080p, something I don't really think I need.
So, what should I do? Which should I go for? Should I just see if I can demo each of them at Best Buy and see which I like? Any more opinions?
zenkimods 10-12-07, 05:41 PM 1080p will only benefit larger than 37" You wont see a difference if you put a 720p 32" next to a 1080p 32", at least not a big enough difference to warrant the price difference.
mastacow53 10-12-07, 09:42 PM Like I've said before, I would get the Panny.
This is just me, but I wouldn't even consider an HD TV under 40 inches. The WOW factor doesn't kick in before 40".
I'm going to go to my local Best Buy and demo the Panasonic 32'' and the Samsung, then make my decision.
lazerfan 10-13-07, 06:26 AM I believe the Panasonic will have less artifacts such as banding or posterization. Panasonic has had nice LCD's for a couple of years now.
My local BestBuy finally had the Panasonic TC-32LX700 up for display and did some comparing to the models listed above. In my opinion, since I'm in the same boat and I am planning to purchase a 32" LCD gaming TV, Panasonic wins my vote. I'm a couple hundred dollars short, just a couple of weeks and I'll go and pick up my TV. All the models have great picture if you just use it for viewing pleasure, but Panasonic has the specs for gamers and probably the best built-in sound speakers for a 32" LCD TV, along with a fantastic viewing angle to boot. The prices are all about the same, though the TC-32LX700 at my BestBuy store seems to be fluxuating, from 999.99-949.99 and back up about 20 dollars slightly every now and then. Only con about this TV is that it has ONE component video input. That's all I need, but more would be nice for a "just-in-case" scenario. All in all, I myself will be picking up the Panasonic in the coming weeks for my gaming indulgences, as it's the best TV I've seen for that price. There is that 32" Sony XBR series that is basically made solely to compete with the Panasonic TC-32LX700, but priced at a glorious 1399.99.
