I just picked up Hustle and Flow, Top Gun, and Misson Impossible. I also noticed these are all Paramount titles. Huh. Also how come there are like 10 Blu Ray movies for under 10 bucks (all Sony titles). Man that is depressing. I am always seeing BD titles for cheaper, even when there is a sale.

FYI: 54% of Sony released Blu-ray disc use MPEG2 video encoding (the rest is AVC w/1 VC1 title) encoding and 66% Paramount HD DVDs use VC1 (rest AVC)

Thanks Xylon ..purchased Top Gun and The Untouchables, total was 34 and change. I could've saved on shipping through the in-store pick up but it's only available in San Francisco stores----BUMMER. Cost me 4 bucks for shipping and 2 for tax--still a decent deal... comes out to 17 bucks per movie.

Hey guys I was waiting at the Tempe Arizona store this morning at 8 sharp and when I started collecting the movies I wanted(3 Blu and 5 HD-DVD)I realized they had marked Knocked Up at $13.50 just like the other ones such as Top Gun and The Warriors. I knew the ad didn't show this so I headed up to the front with my stuff and sure enough it rang up as $27.99. I told the guy the sign in the HD-DVD section said the price was $13.50 and he walked back and confirmed this. Took about ten minutes but they ended up giving it to me at the price which was on the display(I think they have to by law). A funny thing is that I had to give them my name and phone number to get the price lowered. I wonder what is up with that? Maybe to keep employees from marking things wrong and getting their friends to come in and buy at a lower price. Anyways I picked up U2, Top Gun, Knocked Up, Hustle and Flow and the Warriors plus three Blu movies. Thinking about running back up and getting a few others.

I ordered 7 movies from Frys (3 HD, 4 BR). Shipping was roughty $6. So I guess the shipping charges evened out the taxes I didn't have to pay for these movies.

I bought 13 titles 10 blu and 3 red at the Northwest Houston store. 143.91 plus tax made it $155.78 Earlier in the day I bought 4 BD 1 HD DVD at a BB near me on price match.. I tried to do the same at the next closest BB and they refused to price match so I ended up spending the hour for the round trip to Fry's. I had the wife with me or I would have bought even more.

On the Fry's pricing I bought 18 titles total - 14 blue - 4 red. I have a bunch of red preorders startin to trickle in from HMV (2 yesterday) so I need to cool it no matter how cheap. I still need to buy Transformers next week.

Picked up Sleepy Hollow today. Was feeling pretty good about it until i glanced over the the blu-ray section and saw Resident Evil Apocalypse for $9.99. Sorta took the shine off my purchase. :(

I snagged Top Gun, The Italian Job & Sleepy Hollow.

I had to hunt down The Italian Job - it was not where it was supposed to be and the only copy. Top Gun was on a back end cap only - a few others like The Untouchables were like that as well. I had to grab a copy of each and put them in the main HD section to help someone else out ;-). I also had to have Christina Ricci in HD - waiting for BSM to go down in price so I can pick that up :-D.

Some other guy was there picking up BRD discs by the boat load. He had at least 20 movies in his hands - grabbing the 9.99$ discs. I'm all for getting stuff on sale, but I wasn't going to buy just because they were on sale. I had to show him T5E was on a front end cap b/c he was looking at the empty box. :-)

As nice as it is to get these HD DVD titles on the cheap... the BD promotions are insane... So far I ended up with 4 HD DVDs and 14 BDs... I hate that but $9.95 is impossible to pass up. Even more BD titles are buy one get one free on Sunday.. I have to restrain myself or I won't have the money to buy Transformers as I already have a bunch of Warner Home Video online HD DVD orderd.

I wonder why movies like The Game and Dracula on Blu-Ray come out so crummy when movies that came out around the same time like this one look great. I realize directors intent and problems with film stock but I love when older movies look this good. Just had to vent a little bit.

Yep. I don't mind the grain but having a picture that is of the same sharpness as a regular dvd just isn't going to cut it. I think the color stinks with Dracula compared to the older superbit version too. The Game just looks miserable on HD-DVD.
