Although I have posted this in another forum. I was hoping this forum may have someone with this experience and possible solution. It is a big problem for me.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Or am I stuck with this? I finally replaced my Sony HD200 with an HR20-700 from BB last night. Picture quality is far less. But that's not the issue. I have the HR20 going to a DVDO VP50 video processor/scaler. That means, I use NATIVE ON and all possible resolutions since the VP50 does a much better job than the HR20 (or plasma TV). Here is the BIG problem: when there is a 480i signal, the HR20 wants to alter the 4x3 format. In other words, the true native signal is NOT being passed. If I look at the VP50 info screen it says 480i 16x9, it should be unaltered 480i 4x3. The only choice is crop (not acceptable), stretch (terrible in the HR20, but great in the VP50), and pillar box which puts bars on the sides. My previous HD200 did NOT do this. It sent the native 480i straight through. This is a major pain since you have to reconfigure the HR20 when switching between HD and SD! BTW, forcing to 720p is not an option since I want the VP50 to do all scaling.
So... is this a bug, does anyone else find this an issue? Or is there some magic I am missing? I did a quick search and found mention of the bars, etc. but not my particular problem. I can't imagine I am the only one having this issue. Thanks....
