Looks like some idiot at Valve thinks that Canada is predominantly French. Canada has 1 province that speaks French and a percentage of those people speak English too. This is what the version of "The Orange Box" will look like if you live in Canada. They are all like this:

Do you live in Quebec? I recently heard that some people accidentally picked up the French version of Halo 3 because a few of the BB/FSs hadn't clearly differentiated between the two versions. This was in both Quebec City and Montreal..

I haven't checked any of my local stores yet, but I find it very hard to believe that's the only SKU available in Ontario etc...

There is, but the French information is almost never accentuated anywhere other than Quebec.

Being a Frenchie from Quebec, I always resist buying software here. Just recently the local gov. introduced a new bill obligating software companies to sell their products in French.

I'm not sure how far they've gotten with that bill, but I'm not taking any chances, I'll cross the bridge into Ontario just to make sure I can purchase the English version.

IMO usually the French translation sounds... very.... "twinke-toes" if you know what I mean.

A few years ago I was at the local Future Shop in Quebec wanting to buy MS Flight Simulator and I almost blew a gasket in the store when the sales clerk couldn't guarantee that it was in English.

Bill 101 is a Provincial or 'State' law only applicable in Quebec. The rest of Canada is predominantly English speaking. I got my copy of the game in Toronto, where I live (not in Quebec). Toronto's a city of about 5 million people, almost 100% English speaking (or some bi-lingual). My copy was just like the one posted, pre-dominantly French. I don't care or anything, it's just kind of weird. Also the game is th exact same, it's just the packaging that's odd.

I've run into that with dubbed movies.
In PR most Hollywood flicks run in the original english with subtitles.
No problem.
But for some reason, with big blockbusters, the studios tend to release a spanish dubbed version at the same time and if you're not careful, you just might find youself walking into a theater with the spanish-dubbed version and I gotta tellya, Han Solo is *not* anywhere near as dashing when he's spouting in a very proper "caftillian afccent". :D

As a rule, whenever possible, it is generally best to experience content in its native tongue, as the creators envisioned it. Whether it be movies, anime, or games.

Subtitles have their uses, after all. :cool:

For a few weeks a couple of years ago all Quebec retailers had to clear their shelves of game software unless the games included a French manual as well. Since then most games are packed with a french manual and a french slip cover. Once you fight through the cellophane and remove the slip cover, you'll find the regular english cover below. This is actually the first time that I've seen a bilingual cover. I understand why the french is predominant, as it's actually a requirement in this province. Since there is no requirement in any others one cover takes care of the distribution for the entire country.

Its funny, I grew up in Montreal and went to McGill, but could not wait to leave because of things like this. Its always one thing or another sometimes to ridiculous extremes (like the irish pub owner getting fined/cited because his coasters for holding the beer glasses had only the english name for his Irish beers). You are correct that the game is the same, and in that there is no big deal, but as a consumer you are not give the choice (pick the box with the french cover or the english cover), you have to take the french cover only. That is what annoys most angliphones in Quebec.

Buddy the dvd case stays on my shelf and the game stays in my Xbox. Boite Orange = Orange Box. Does it really detract that much from the experience? Its great to have choice but you going to refuse to buy the game because of the language of the dvd cover?

Only ones that come straight from the US. I have a ton of DVDs with French plastered all over them.......and it makes them look like ****.

No offense frenchies, but being a Canadian I resent the fact that they do this. Like anyone in the country who speaks French doesn't speak english as well... So gay it's embarassing. Why don't we have the title in hindu and chinese as well? Because we're just bound to pander to the french-canadians that would rather be their own independent state... Yeah, um okay....
