View Full Version : Phantom of the Opera HD low sound level output?

I'm using PowerDVD Ultra to view HD-DVD movies on my HTPC with an XBOX HD-DVD addon. For some reason, the sound level on Phantom of the Opera HD-DVD with either DD+ or TrueHD is about 10-15db lower than the SD version using the same player. I tried King Kong and there's no difference between HD and SD as far as sound level goes.

My HTPC has a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card and I've tried both analog and digital outputs.

I don't have a stand alone player or a XBOX to connect to so I have no idea if that would make a difference.

I appreciate your opinions.

Thanks

This title and The Last Samuri were Warner's first 2 HD-DVD's from launch day, and both suffer from a -10db volume level, which really is not fixed by raising your volume nob, really the best way to fix this is to raise your speaker levels all +10 and you get a normal sound level, but yes it is the disc which is at fault for this.

I'm hoping the German HD-DVD has better audio, probably DTS-HD or DTS-MA English sound track.

It is a wonderful joy to have to boost your receiver from 0dB to +10dB, let me tell you.

That's too bad. It seems as though I have to crank the volume on my YAMAHA receiver way up in order to get a decent sound, and it still doesn't sound right.

Thanks for the info.

Swordfish is another title that suffers from this problem.
