So many versions of HDMI since its release. I was hoping someone here could decipher between the different versions. My concern is that if I have a HDMI 1.1 receiver, 1.3 TV, 1.2 cable box will they all work together in harmony or does all equipment have to be the same version.

The reason I ask is because I want to purchase an older receiver that is only HDMI 1.1 and wasn't sure if it would work with newer HDMI version equipment and even older version equip.

I understand that the versions get better each time but wasn't sure if you could mix and match.

Example:

Plasma - 1.3
AVR - 1.1
DVD - 1.2
STB - 1.2

If I run all equipment thru the AVR is the output only as good as 1.1 even though some other equip has higher version?

Are all versions of HDMI campatible with each other?

Thanks Guys!

All the HDMI versions are designed to work together so it shouldn't be a problem to use a HDMI 1.1 AV receiver though it would prevent any of the HDMI 1.2/1.3 features from being used such as support for lossless audio bitstreams, Deep Color, xvYCC, and HDMI-CEC. There are also many minor updates that have been made as well and here is a list of changes made since the HDMI 1.1 specs:

I figured that you could mix versions of HDMI but just wanted to double check...THANKS!
