I just purchased the A20 and updated the firmware on it to version 2.5. Rented 300 from Netflix, put it in the machine and I get the following error: The disc is not DVD format. Cannot play the disc.
I did see some other threads on this, but what I read is everyone saying they didn't have any problems playing it. Is there a known issue with this disc? I got Knocked UP and Corpse Bride to play, but not this.
Help???!!!
Thanks.

The one time I got that error, cleaning the disc (Planet Earth, Disc 1) fixed it.

Well I would try cleaning the disc (since it is a rental) and see if that helps. Also if you hold down the power button on the player (not the remote) for about ten seconds it will force a re-boot of the player and I always do this after a firmware update. Oh and in the player setup I believe there is an option listed called "Format" so make sure that either "auto" or "HD DVD" is selected.

I must be the luckiest guy on earth having zero problems with rentals so far with HD DVD.

You're not THE luckiest, I'm just as lucky.:) Zero problems here as well.

Thanks for the responses. I will try cleaning and see if it works. If not I'll just flip it over and watch the upconverted side.

First _300_ HDDVD from Netflix froze up at chapter 17, replacement worked fine.. So I returned the one I bought from Best Buy...
_Knocked Up_ from Netflix, another combo, worked flawlessly, as did _Good Night and Good Luck_. Here's hoping all fabs have finally figured combos out..
XA2, 2.5 firmware.
