Hey guys,

I've searched the forums (and internet) but can't seem to find an answer. Basically, I'm having trouble getting WizD set up on my new iMac. My AVLP2 can see the server but when i try to connect, all I get is a black screen. I'm stumped!

When I launch the wizd executable, Terminal pops up (and way to stop this from happening?) and displays this:

Last login: Sat Oct 13 18:53:31 on ttyp1
/Applications/WizD/wizd; exit
Welcome to Darwin!
iMac:~ joshua$ /Applications/WizD/wizd; exit
wizd v24.0 start.
No config file is open. (use default settings at all)
Daemoning....
logout
[Process completed]

Notice that it says "No config file is open" ... ? The wizd.conf is in the same folder, but it looks like wizd can't see it. What am I doing wrong?

Here is what my wizd.conf (partially) looks like:

## ============================================================ ===============
## wizd.conf
## wizd -- MediaWiz Server Daemon. config file.
## ============================================================ ===============

## Enable/disable debug log output
flag_debug_log_output true
debug_log_filename wizd_debug.log

## (Daemon conversion)
## This flag controls whether the server runs as a hidden application
## or if it runs with a console window
## hidden: true (default)
## console: false
flag_daemon false

## ==============================
## = HTTP processing section setting
## ==============================

## Base location for your media files
document_root ./docroot

## Aliases show up in the base location as virtual folders
## When selected they get redirected to the path you enter here
## Format: alias [name] [path]
## Under Windows, "/cygdrive/c/" and "c:\" are equivalent

## You can list up to 16 aliases here
## alias: allplay will play whatever files are present
## moviealias: allplay defaults to video playlists
## musicalias: allplay defaults to music playlists
## photoalias: allplay defaults to photo playlists
## secretalias: like a secret directory, but can take an absolute path
## and the 3-digit code can be used from any directory

moviealias HDTV /Volumes/Data/Video
musicalias Music /Volumes/Data/Music
photoalias Photos /Volumes/Data/Graphics/Camera

## Enable this flag to allow file deletion from the LinkPlayer
## To delete files, press the "setup" button on your remote TWICE
## To exit from the delete mode (red screen), press the "stop" button
##
## false: no file deletion allowed
## true: can delete files from the client - Use with caution!!!
flag_allow_delete false

## server listening Port (default:8000)
## Choose a number other than 8000 if you want to run
## both wizd and Link Server at the same time
server_port 8004

I'm not really sure what my aliases should like on the Mac (this is my first Mac and it's only about three days old!) but I'm guessing they're correct.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how I can get this working, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance ... / mavis

Simple... Wizd want to be superuser...

cd /Applications/WizD/
sudo ./wizd

type your password and wizd will start... ;)

Thanks for the quick reply!

Now, do I have to open Terminal and type this stuff in every time I want to use WizD? I mean, I'd like to have it launch automatically when I log in ... is that possible?

Thanks again, I greatly appreciate your help!

It should not be that hard to write a shell script which you can run at startup...
Don't have one for you though, my Mac runs 24/7... :)

Why in god's name is the defaults in the wizd.conf in the mac file set up like this

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music

I'm sorry I'm just not an expert at Terminal I can't get this running.

The default wizd.conf is for Windows...

Try opening the wizd.conf with Texteditor.app... It's not that hard to do. ;)

Yeah, but this is the wizd.conf file that is bundled with the MAC download.

If it so easy to reconfigure, why couldn't the poster do it.

It's just a example of how mac-unfriendly this package is.

Consider yourself lucky that someone even bothered to port the application to the Mac. Comments like yours will insure that in the future I won't bother to port it to platforms I don't use.

Agree there...
We are looking for developers to help continue development on Wizd so we can make it
compatible with new Syabas loaded players... If anyone interested to join dev team,
please come forth... (all info is already available)

Jhue, sorry! :o

Just understand that I'm frustrated. I just think you would get even more Mac users for all your hard work if you'd go the extra mile and make it easy for even a novice to get it going. Maybe a few more PayPal donations as well.

Make friends! Buy a mac-user lunch. Ask him how to make it easier to install. :D

Thanks for the effort jhue! It's greatly appriciated! :)

Don't be offended by yelling fools who do not want to read and learn... They are missing out on the good stuff anyway... ;)

You're welcome. Just to clarify - I don't run wizd on a Mac. I run it on an x86-64 Linux server, and an embedded PowerPC/Linux box (Buffalo Kuro-box). The Mac port I made available was as a convenience to those Mac users who wanted to run wizd but who did not have the necessary experience to port the software themselves. I don't use it myself.

This is open-source, community supported software. If there's something you think needs to be done (dotheDVDeed), do it yourself and share it with others. Don't whine about how somebody didn't do such and such for you. You're just like an American teenager with your sense of entitlement. You make me want to puke.

Jhue,

Then don't pass off this software as mac software when it's not.

I'm far from an "American Teenager"--

I've a enough years under my belt to know an attitude like yours won't get you anywhere.

I said I was sorry--but apparently you need to rant. I offered advice and you spat on me.

There's other server software--I'll look elsewhere.

Thanks

Good riddance.
